Bill Gates Says, Microsoft "focused on its independent strategy"

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said Wednesday the company isn't pursuing other deals following the withdrawal of its $47.5 billion takeover bid for Yahoo.

He said in Tokyo that the company put "a lot of effort" in the talks with Yahoo and has decided the two should pursue "independent paths."

Those comments seemed to set a different tone than on Tuesday in South Korea, where he said the company wasn't ruling out alternative partnerships after the failure to buy Yahoo.

Personally I think they should focus on their core product (OS in case they forgot) and get that right. They have fallen years behind search against Google and if they're not careful they will loose too much market share to Apple if they keep putting crap like Vista on the market.

    Fix the OS first.

So Microsoft isnt pursue any partnership ventures at the moment. For a multi national business to say alternative partnerships in the future is counter productive for any business.

i think bill gates is worrying about who is going to run windows later not how much he can own. isn't he one of the few who knows the code. whathappens if he passes out? He already has 200 billion i think by now.

That would break the hearts of all those Yahoo shareholders planning a revolt against the board.

It doesn't look like Microsoft will lose its market share to Apple unless the later decides to come out of its shell and hit the market with an operating system that can run on as many platforms as Windows does, not just on an Apple machine.

They will be dominant on the desktop market for many years to come, what they are doing now is competing against Google for a slice of the Internet pie.

Hopefully Microsoft will be able to focus on making their next operating system better than
    vista.

Bill Gates I think really worried about Google dominations, Google even moving and developing something that Bill see might hurt MS.

They are all trying to move into a digital media convergence where they will be fighting each other toe and nail.
