The point of Squidoo is to advertise an existing product/page, not to advertise the Squidoo itself, but YOU can help increase it's importance by getting backlinks to it (Submitting it directories, articles, etc, but I don't see PPC as a viable option for a squidoo page)

Also keep adding content and get some friends to rate it. We used to have a section here (freebies) but some curmudgeon stopped stumbles and other exchanges...

Adding original content is a great idea.

Ratings swaps are a waste of time. See http://blogs.squidoo.com/squidblog/?p=162

You can't rely on swaps long term but it can give you a head start when it is new. I have had a couple in the top 100 for my categories after getting some swaps. Not a lot and I did of course promote them in other ways.

Do you build links for the page with some keywords that you are targeting as your anchor text?

Get your lens favourited and 5 stared by loads of people. Just spend some time going onto other lenses you find interesting and giving them a good rating. Leave a message at the end asking for the favour returned.

On one of my blogs I actually had someone advertising for their Squidoo Lens. I believe I'd figured out which lens it was too and, oddly enough, it wasn't even complete.

Just do your normal linkbuilding, as best you can anyway. The people that seem to have the best fortune either offer some tools or services OR they talk up their lenses, which sends traffic to them, and they sell them off.

Here's a compilation of tools and linkbuilding resources for Squidoo.

As reprobate mentioned, list your quality lenses with the three big Squidoo directories too.

Also, join Squidoo's SquidU forum for help and asking others to critique your lens(es).

Join Squidoo groups and try to befriend people along the way. :)
