This is very subjective question, but Ive been looking for a new desktop and everything I find at decent price is stuffed full of junk software. What do Internet marketers really need ? I don't play games or watch movies. All I do is build niches and promote. So I guess my ? is whats the best desktop set up for us Internet marketers for the money. (Under a K) I would love 2 24inch monitors , but thats out of the question at $300 + each. I can live with 2x19s Let me know what you think Thanks all
Thanks for replying. Finding machines isnt the problem. Its what configuration and what is needed to become very efficient with the time we have to get things done. I hope to get some feedback on set ups folks are using. What do webmasters like, what do they use, How would you make it better? Thanks
I have a notebook. I need to set up a nice office that will help me be productive which I feel would include 2 large monitors. Having to bounce back and forth between browsers is starting to suck. I want to have 4 different projects or windows open at once. Cant get that with a notebook or can you.?
I use a dell precision workstation (390) with a duel monitor setup...highly recommended! If you can, get the best you can afford, you don't want to have to upgrade again in a year do you? Try and find something that has everything you need, with enough room for expansion in the future. The Precision 390 is no longer available, but the t3400 looks promising. I set up these options to see the price, which came up to $1,049 including the (single) monitor, and XP PRO. This isn't the default setup, I made some adjustments, so you'll have to customize it to your liking. -Intel™ Core®2 Duo E4600 (2.40GHz/800MHz/2MB L2) 375W -256MB PCIe x16 nVidia NVS 290, Dual Monitor DVI Capable -2GB, 800MHz, DDR2 SDRAM Memory, ECC -250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ and 8MB DataBurst Cache When I bought mine I ordered it through my business, and got a $300 small business discount on top of that (hint, hint) I also like to pick up old machines and set them up as dedicated boxes for certain types of scripts and such, I hit all the auctions and sales for business's going out and can usually pick up older crappy (4-5 year old) machines for like $50.
Since you aren't doing anything demanding, you don't need a really expensive computer. You'll probably want atleast Intel P4 (maybe Dual Core since it's whats new) Windows XP or Vista should Suffice 512MB or More RAM You can probably find a great comp @ newegg for a decent price.
You dont need a lot. Anything thats out on the market will be fine for what you want to do, just try to get 60+ hard drive and 1gb of ram.
Yes, with Linux. It's like 4 monitor screens on one desktop. Beryl is awesome. However, I'm sure this adventure doesn't fit into your already set expectations. Get your office started; by all means be comfortable in, and proud of, the place you do your work, but don't expect a room to change your outcome. I'm not raining on your parade, I just want to be sure you consider the differences between comfort and productivity. Comfort will help you to relax and be creative, but it is drive that leads to productivity.
I should have been clearer. I'm building sites and learning to write scripts. Ive actually been in business my entire working life and fully understand the difference between comfort and getting work done. I don't need a place to hide from my wife. Ive had many offices. Ive never worked for another person. Changing to linux is probably not in the cards. ----------------------------------------------------- My oldest son (27) has cpu's set up with a 32" TV and a 65 inch TV, but after looking at it for a hour I think its a bit much. I'm leaning towards dell business. Ive had a account for years midaswell use the discount Thanks for the feedback everyone!
lol, understood! cheers dude! Good luck, I'd go with Dell with you if I didn't build my own - highly recommended for their good service. A little steep, but they aren't selling words and lies like HP, they are selling good hardware. You can't go wrong. A good workstation mini tower is probably all you need. Monitor seperate could get you a better deal on a bigger monitor too.
I would also suggest getting at least 2gb of RAM, since Vista is all you can buy with Dell these days, and it's such a memory hog that running 1GB of RAM is just asking for trouble. If you were really serious about having many windows open at once and running a bunch of software, I would recommend getting 4-8GB of RAM, so things can move a lot quicker and there's no stress. You could, of course, buy a new computer and then downgrade to XP, but overall I think it would just waste your time to try and find all of the proper drivers, get it all set up, etc... so I say just buy a Dell with Vista installed and try to have at least 2GB of RAM with it, probably want 4 in your case.
Build one Youtube VIDEO > Transparent Case, 4 Gigs RAM, 1000 Gig drive, Intel Core 2 Not too far from your price ceiling. Maybe a bit more, but not too much.
