Besides using adsense, what are some good ways to boost revenue from a joke site? Are there any affiliate products that convert well?
At the top of the page put: If i made you laugh, buy me a cup of coffee and have it link to a donate paypal link for $2.95
Genius. Also, hit them with a web2.0 feature that allows them to upload their jokes and have an alert that goes out to subscribers once a week linking them to the joke page. Monetize it tastefully and relevantly. Jokes-for-Phones affiliations and the like. Or... Start your own text-to-phone system where users can not only upload jokes to be featured, but can also receive a joke by category, on demand. Perhaps a joke of the day, as well, or instead.
Donations do work but I guess you will need to build up a lot of generic traffic and start earning via CPM banner ads. You can increase your impressions by dividing your jokes or stories into pages.
Hi Lloyd, You could setup such a site using Wordpress and install a "buy me a beer" type of plugin to collect donations. My suggestion is in addition to many of the above ones. Success, Rich
I don't think donations will work very good. An excellent way to monetize your site would be creating some kind of book with the jokes. Could be a pdf or a real book, with all the categories, etc.. I think it could work very good If I have any other idea, i'll post here!
The donation idea sounds interesting. I don't know about 2.95 though. Maybe like a dollar will be more feasible.
Check your competitor's ads. If their ads have been up for a few months, they may also be a good source for your site. Go to DavesDaily.com. Many of their ads have been up continuously.
