I am starting a new website, for getting indexed or for getting a PR 4, i have to build backlinks is it?

I read in some other threads :

    No value for directory links
    No value for comment links

Is there any other practicable way to get backlinks without paying any money, for a newly started website?

For Link exchanging most of the webmasters hate PR0 sites, so its will be very hard for a newbie to get backlinks.

Is there any way to get a PR4 without backlinks?

Submit to lots of directories that are relivant to your content, start posting on forums with the URL in your signature.

Get your site on some relivant blogs. All of these will help you.

One another thing: linkbait. Great content will always attract backlinks even though your site is still PR0.

To get the best results you will need to spend some money, submitting an article to
hundreds of sites is extremely time consuming but if you pay someone to it, you will
have more time to focus on other things.

I would say classified ads would be a good place to start.

Firstly, you wont get PR4 in a short space of time. Page rank is a measure of relevance in googles eyes and their rankings take time.

Your strategies depend on the type of site you have too. If it's a blog based site you have an rss feed so you can submit that feed to rss aggregators such as, feedage etc with relevant tags (keywords).

It is important to have good content on your site too otherwise you wont get far as google only ranks good content.

    Here's a good starting point.
Write an article or articles on the subject relating to a keyword you want your site to rank for.

Go to squidoo.com and sign-up and start a new lens (this is just a page on their site)
and use your keyword as the title and in the lens url. Add your article as a text module and put an anchor text link to your site within the article and add some other modules. (you'll find help files etc on the site). After you've got some content on it then hit publish. Then view your page. Copy the url of your lens and you should find the rss feed url too. Now go to some social bookmarking sites and bookmark your lens and then to feedage (and any other rss aggregators and submit the lens feed with your keywords as tags.

Then you can submit articles to directories such as ezinearticles. Once your article is approved and live in ezinearticles don't just leave it at that. Submit the article url to social bookmarking sites PLUS you have an author RSS feed too so submit that to the RSS agregators.

This should get some link love happening.

    Cheers
    Col

If you submit to a few hundred free directories you can get to a PR3 fairly easily. Add in one or two high quality links and you'll be able to bump it up to a pr4.

The beauty of the new Web is that you don't need Link exchange in order to get backlinks and PR.
Social marketing is a must, tons of backlinks there, although not all are "follow". Do a Squidoo, a Hubpage use Article Marketing. Those are just a few places to get started.

Finally, don't worry much about PR, if your site is good, and you keep promoting it, the PR will come, trust me.

Is PR4 a standard? I'm curious as to why PR4 is the goal.. Is there a good source of finding out what each PR takes in generally terms. I know that it is a complex formula, but does so many PR7 links to your site guarantee a PR4? What about PR5? How much is link backs and how much is content / keywords?

Sorry for my n00bness, but I'm here to learn!

the higher the PR of the backlink you get , the easier it will be to get a high PR

if you get just a few PR8 links you can easily have PR7

These are the major strategies for link building, but it's all about having the right mix of strategies in place and finding the right formula takes time and practice. This brings up the old-age debate of quality vs quantity of links. In my opinion it's a bit of both= you need a good quantity of QUALITY links.

Iceman- you say to submit the article to E-zine let it get cached and then social bookmark the hell out of it? What's the advantage here...more traffic AND links from viewers who also digg/stumble/propel/mixx the same article? No penalty from Google for duplicate material?

Not true. If you believe them, then open your wallet and be prepared to pay for most links you get.

This is true, but reciprocal links do not carry much SEO weight. They can be good if used for traffic though.

Why is PR4 so important? The goal should be to rank well in the search engines regardless of the PR you are given.

You can get some more free backlinks at social bookmarking sites. Check my signature for a list.

    Happy link building! :)
