Paying 1$ by Paypal... Possible?

Is it possible to pay small amounts like 1$ or 2$ using PayPal? If so, how do they charge for a 1$ payment?

    Thanks in advance!

If you're sending 1$ to a Premier account holder, then there is a charge (33c) but there is none for Personal accounts.

What is the amount from which they begin to charge personnal accounts?

Does that mean people prefere to receive 20 X 1$ rather than 1 X 20$?

    This seems to be free:

    ----
Receive payments funded by PayPal Balance, PayPal Instant Transfer or PayPal eCheck
    ----

    But not that:
    ----
Receive payments funded by Credit Card, Debit Card or Buyer Credit
    ----

My PayPal account is currently linked to my credit card.. Therefore there are fees for the people I send money to, right?

Should I be better to link my PayPal account to my bank account? Then there would be not charge for people I would send money to? Or should I "Add Funds" to my PayPal account for those transactions to be free?

I'm in Canada if this is important for something...

    Thanks for the help everybody!

Oh yes, there will be fees if you pay via credit card. Nothing you can do about it. I think it's still the same with Add Funds but the fees are less, I'm not sure.

Then what should be done to fall into the "free transaction" category, found from the link posted by supahsain?:

    ----
    free:
Receive payments funded by PayPal Balance, PayPal Instant Transfer or PayPal eCheck
    ----

that's when you transfer money from your debit card to your Paypal balance
then pay people from Paypal balance
if you live in Canada then it will take about to week to transfer money from your bank account to Paypal balance

Credit Card payments are chargeable at the higher fees and limited to 5 such transaction a year.

A Personal account is also limited to the existing sellers with balances in their paypal accounts from the 40 Send/Receive countries. You will not have access to customers from the Send Only countries or anyone without an existing balance. Basically, you will lose out on customers from the other 150 countries and buyers from the 40 Send/Receive countries.

Sorry if I don't understand quikly, but does all this mean I HAVE to add funds to my PayPal account for my "sending money" transactions to be free of charge for the person I send money to?

By the way, is this what you guys do?

Yes, first you need to be from the 40 Send/Receive Paypal countries. If you are from the US, Germany or Australia, you can link your paypal account to your bank account where it can withdraw from it when you make payment, ie the e-check option. Other countries cannot add money to their paypal account and can use existing funds from sales or paying using their linked credit cards.

The other option is when you sell something through paypal, you will have some paypal balance then instead of withdrawing the money, you can use it to spend by paying others with it.

If you are the one paying, there would never be fees no matter what method you use to pay and you really do not need to worry about the seller. In short, anyone who sells products or provides a service and get paid through paypal must have a premier or business account. Just take that assumption because that is how it should be. They are not supposed to be using a personal account to use to make money through.

If you funded through you credit card, you'll HAVE TO pay the 33 cents + a percent. At these rates, it would be unprofitable to tranfer $1.

Thanks everybody! I'm going to link my PayPay account to my bank account, since I live in Canada I see it's allowed.

But there is still one thing I don't understand:

Once my PayPal account is directly linked to my bank account (and not to my credit card) do I still have to "add funds" to my PayPal account in order for the people I send money to to not pay fees? Or is it then automatically free? When you talk about "the e-check option", is this something different than simply having your PayPal account linked to your bank account?

Also, why should I upgrade to a premium account if by linking my personnal PayPal account to my bank account the transactions become free?

Well, it depends on your role. If you need the paypal account just to make payments then a personal account would suffice. If you are planning to use it to receive payments for product or services which you offer then you need a premier account.

If you make payments from either a Personal, Premier or Business account, it is always free for the customer. It is only if you receive payment that is where the fees comes in.

Yes, the e-check option is the linking to the bank account for payment. I believe it is not an instantaneous method and it may take several days before the seller receives the money.

I only use PayPal to send money. So my main concern is that I do not want people I send 1$ to to pay 33 cents fees! I would like them to be able to cash that 1$ without any fees.

But I think I now understand that by adding funds to my PayPal account from my bank account (even if it may takes a couple of days to transfert), the people I send money to won't have to pay any fees. Correct me if I'm wrong!

    Thanks again.
