Nobody can say that. I would go for one really big authority site. It would be easier to handle.
Promoting many small sites is not an easy job. But at least you're diversified.

1-3 Big sites spend 40% on one and 30% on the other two then if one preforms well you can adjust your work towards that one.

I'd say make one big site and concentrate fully on that. Once you are happy with it then perhaps move onto another project.

Take it from one who's been through the mill in the web space. If you want to make money with AdSense, or monetize with affiliate programs, diversify. Build tons of sites. I've had the unnerving experience of having that one large site fade from the radar screen more than once. With diversification, if one tanks, another can take it's place. Believe me, there's safety in numbers. And, you do not have to sacrifice quality if you know what you're doing.

I've learned my lesson the hard way. Did I say diversify?

Some people prefer 1 big website. But I prefer to have more than 1 site.

From what I've read on here if you have plenty of sites that comply with the TOS then your going to earn more than just having one site.

Yeah, it seems that the big money makers are making money from a diverse range of topics or niches. Perhaps if you are solely targeting adsense this is one clue you can follow.

(BTW Jim Karter's blog has a page rank of 0)
