Why not go back to DOS or Wondows 3.1, they need hardly any ram at all. Me, I just went and bought a computer that can handle Vista and I'm quite happy with it.

I have Vista on my laptop, and I am not very happy with it either. It's slow and cumbersome, takes forever to boot up and shut down, do tasks. I'm really hoping that they do something to improve its performance

Yeah it uses quite a bit of RAM I have 54 MBs free out of the total 2 Gigs that I have. I think Vista does that purposely though, to open things quicker.

Vista need big RAM and very fast RAM. I have Vista 64-bit and I love it. If you ask me, if you change to Vista 64-bit, I will say: Yes it is the time for that.

It would really depends. The most add-ons that you run, you would need up more RAM for it. If you turn off all the fancy interface and Defender, you would be able to run it comfortably with 1gb RAM.

Well, I love Vista, but I do agree that it is a system hog. You should try SP1 though, it's a bit better at performance.

Turn off all the fanciful animations and Defender and you would get much better performance.

Defender is a nice touch but it is a memory hog and tend to slow things down quite a lot.

You actually do better with other anti-spywares and antiviruses.

I tried Defender on my XP and hated it. First thing I did was to turn it off on Vista and boy, that changed a lot in terms of performance.
