It is called a growl. But when I hear growl I think of a dog making a low rumble, aggressive sound. And it isn't the same sound a bear makes. So I think bears should have a word for the sound they make. I propose we call it a grizzle. bears grizzle to express hunger, warning, and mating calls. What do you think?
but most bears make that sound, so it should go to all bears. except fake bears like koala and panda. neither of which is actually a member of the bear family.
But then it woudn't be fair because dogs would get 2 sounds, bark and growl - a lot of animals growl - my husband growls - growl describes a sound - it's a perfect word for what bears do - The low, guttural, menacing sound made by an animal (def)
but a bear sound isn't low and it isn't always menacing. and you are right about a dog having two sounds, no other animal barks. if dogs have their own sounds why can't bears?
The growl is a correct term. A bear has two speeds walk and kill. The growl is the warning sound before the kill.
Yeah, on another member of the fake bear club, it's called a piglet bear. Not strictly a bear, but if you gave it some hair, and wrapped its legs round a tree...
Bear sound ) Well for me a growl is a growl something dangerous doesn't mather if a Grizlly or a Rotvailer makes it you are in danger in both times
A grizzly expresses a roar that you can hear for a few miles when angry? How do I know? I live in the boonies and almost was ate once :S
