Question about major directory submission

Discussion in 'Directories' started by Vozzek, May 13, 2008.

I'm doing some submissions to major directories, and business.com seems highly recommended. It's $300 for the year, though. So my question is simple: is it worth it?

Thanks in advance for the input.

It depends on yourself, what is the nature of your web site, how do you think such a listing will benefit you. Is the value of the listing to you worth $300 a year? I guess no one can answer except you yourself.

for the same price you can get listed in yahoo, much higher value plus you get multiple listings in yahoo directory. and if you don't renew there is a chance your listing remains in the directory.
    I don't think that business.com is worth $300 a year.

Well my website is totally a business, a retail site (baby and children's boutique) with over 3200 items and growing. But I understand what you mean about the decision to list it being up to me, value-wise.

I'm definitely listing it in the Yahoo directory, I just haven't done it yet.

    Thanks for the input.

Business.com has previously purchased PPC traffic to drive to their categories. So the submission fees do offset some of that cost. I'm not sure if they are still doing things that way, but they do try to deliver traffic.

You would not focus on one site, i am guessing you have a advertising budget, this would be spread across a range of mediums including sites, you would then monitor each medium for best results as a return per $, this analysis would then determin which mediums would be kept and which would be dumped and new mediums added.

If you have the budget, it's worth of submitting to yahoo, business.com, etc. But the best shall be dmoz.org.

If you own a B2B kind of site and have the budget then go ahead and submit to business.com and Yahoo Directory, they are definitely worth it.

Thanks all. Delhi, is bizfive.com a new directory? It seems to have very little in the way of listings.

You can get your site listed in most of the directories for free like dmoz, yahoo etc. Some also offer paid service, but $300 for a year is too high, personally, I wouldn't prefer it.

I think you'd be better off advertising in yahoo. I like dmoz too but they take a really long time to list your site, at least that's been my experience.

Although I did submit to Business.com, I would say $300.00 is a bit steep and would rather allocate that elsewhere if you can find. Right now im going to shoot for best of the web.
