Whats better, SEO, PPC, Imporoving Page Rank or other marketing???

Hey guys,

I'm corious over something.

I've read alot online that many people think it is important to have good page rank while others think its not important. Is it important, if so what would be the best way to improve rankings?

Secondly is SEO more efficent than Pay-Per-Click campaigns? i.e/ google adwards etc or would is it better to focus more on other forms of marking such as directory submissions, affiliate marketing etc etc or is there a better way to market you site online if you have low budget to spend

Hope to here what you guys think as this is an issue many people talk about and what you guys provide here i guess will help me as well as many other people reading or wanting to know the best way to improve there sites traffic

You're comparing a lot of very different marketing techniques here that can't really be compared.

SEO is an excellent long term strategy to bring in a consistent source of revenue, and since it's free any money you make is 100% profit. Of course the downside is that it's very time consuming and you may not see results for months.

PPC has instant results, it's easy to test and track campaigns immediately and find out what works and what doesn't. The downside is that it can be very costly if you don't know what you're doing.

As for page rank, it's not as important as it once was. To illustrate do a Google search for any topic you can think of and look at the top 3 results, they won't necessarily have a high page rank. A #1 spot website could have a PR1 while #7 could have PR6. The reason why some people still advocate that PR is important to your SE rankings is because a site's page rank is calculated based on the number of incoming links and the quality and authority of those links which is of course a huge part of ranking high in the SERPS. Bottom line is don't worry so much about getting a higher PR, focus on solid link building and your site will naturally start ranking higher.

Other marketing tactics, I'm a strong believe in social networking sites (i.e. myspace, facebook, digg, e.t.c.) as well as media sites like Youtube. It's a great way to get a influx of instant targeted traffic to your site.

 

To answer this question, can you please tell what for you've got your website? How you make money from it?

If you just sale links in this case PR is crusial for you, in all other cases targeted traffic is more important.

For many niches it is impossible to be in top for the first time (do remember about sndbox), so in this case PPC and PPA are your best friends.

For some niches TOP is verry difficult in total, buut TOP will do so much traffic wich you can't consume. For example for solicitor company (small) it is alright to have 1-2 orders per day, not hundreds or thousands.... In this case PPC and PPA again main tools.

For well established site,. for example webshop with hunderd thousands items, SEO is the most profitable solution.

For well known brands (like for Coca-Cola or Mercedes) the stong visual advert is nesessary to maintain their BRAND-NAME.

Yep, build links wherever you can. The more targeted to your niche the links are the more weight Google will give to them and the higher your site will rank.

Whenever you visit a site for personal entertainment, say you're reading a review about a car or a game and you see there's a comments section, why not just go ahead and drop your link. It might no be related but it's a free link nonetheless, every little bit helps.

Don't try to overdo it by trying to build thousands of links in a week. You'll go out of your mind and end up giving up. Set yourself a weekly goal, i.e. 100 links per week (forum posting, blog comments, directory submissions, press releases, article submissions, e.t.c.) and in a couple of months you'll be amazed with the results.

They are all important. Every website has different needs and different weightings for the various marketing methods. If you're just starting out and need customers quick focus on PPC more. If you have an established site then focus on SEO & internet marketing. But you should always be focused on building your links. Requires a long term strategy...map out your goals first

 

I prefer SEO and Link Building. I've done some PPC campaigns and wasn't quite satisfied with the results. However, my link SEO and Link Building efforts have paid off with good traffic to my websites that convert to sales.

 

they are all important except PR.. i don't focus on getting a high PR.. i want to rank high on SE.. to gain more traffic on my site.. PPC Search Engine Internet Marketing is also good.. but SEO is more cost effective than PPC!

 

I totally agree with freelistfool, SEO (On page and off page) is the best techniques for promote your site.
and also some use of SMO

Look my friend every aspect has it's own importance you can't decide of your own that SEO is good or PPC is best. All have their own different promotional techniques, PPC is normally done for getting some instant traffic without making any efforts by bidding on the selected keywords. SEO is important for future planing and for this one has to make their manual efforts. Now this depends on your site that what you are exactly looking for it...

SEO is much much better than other means of getting traffic. PR is not that important. Try for search engine and you will see results in month or two. I would also recommend social bookmarking.

Hey guys thanks heaps for all the feedback. I have started SEO work (im still an amature and my partneer is away, who normally takes care of the SEO and graphics) but after reading and playing around with out site we recieved a 90% seo score ranking with http://whois.domaintools.com/ is this site accurate or not. secondly i guess i'll keep playing around with SEO as everyone of you's pretty much said SEO is most important. Regarding link building is it more important to link to sites which are similar to my site? i,e web designing? or is it better to exchange links or link to sites who have a higher ranking than mine. Sorry about the questions but what better way to learn than ask.

PR is definitely going to help your website rank, no doubt about it.

If you have the $$ PPC is a good way to drive traffic fast, if you do not have $$ to spend, natural search engine results are the way to go. Using a seo-friendly cms like wordpress can really help your site rank higher, faster.

Question: is there a way I can have the bots visit my site more regularly? i.e. instead of waiting for them to index my site have something which attracts them more often? Also is it important to have a site map as people have been saying it’s important to get higher rankings?

 

use digg and stumble upon - the spiders love them and will send them scooting to your sites.
