I was checking awstats of my site n i found terms like goolge bots n yahoo slurp. I would like to know what is the significance of these bots. If they are visiting our website, what does that indicate? Are they helpful in anyways ? I am kinda noob
n what does it indicate ? if they r visiting our site, dos that mean something postive - like our site is becoming popular? or something negative
they just crawl your site for indexing purpose ... basically it's a good thing for seo .. but if you got something secretve and don't wanna show the world ... then you can block them
hm.. i also tried to search my site on gogle usingsome keywords, n found out that the later pages from 10 onwared showed my site linked or presented as a prono site.. which its not.. so i was just wondering if it has got something to do with bots ?

It indicates that your website is indexed on specific search engine and search engine loves you . of course, its good from point of view of SEO.
Bots are also called spiders.. These are list of how Google spiders work: * Crawling: Does Google know about your site? Can we find it? * Indexing: Can Google index your site? * Serving: Does the site have good and useful content that is relevant to the user's search?
maybe because your site is popular and those spammers wanted their site to become popular also.. those are some of the things that spammers usually do.. sometimes they copy your content and sometimes they put your link on their site.. but, you don't have to worry.. because, as long as you are not connected to those spam site your site will not be penalize.. those spammers are called bad neighborhoods....
yea, absolutely right Bots are some automated programs which visits your site and informs the current status of your site to the desired search engine..
just like...simple All SE(search engine) use a program called robot/spider/ slurp (depend on SE) To ..crawl the page automatically follow the link and indexing pages to add in their data base ......
