Will an article get more traffic on an article directory or my own SEO'd page?

I like to put my articles on websites I make and get them in the search engines. Am I missing out on traffic by not submitting to directories like ezine articles? Duplicate content seems to be an issue. I would rather have my article on my own website than on some directory if only one copy will show up in the SE's.

If you are lucky enough to land high on a search, you'd rather have, maybe a hundred or so a day from search engines, rather than thousands from sites?

It's not really luck. I have been obtaining decent rankings in Google for years now. Are you saying I could get more traffic from article directories? Where is the best place to post my content?

    Hi,

IMO, it's better to have articles on your own site, rather than in article directories (unless the article directories allow duplicate content - so you can write on your site, and copy it to the article dirs).

Consider this: By placing articles on article dirs such as ezinearticles.com, you can get only a partial traffic of the total traffic to your article in ezinearticles.com

i.e. - your article in ezinearticles.com draws 1000 viewers. Out of those 1000 viewers, only a partial amount of traffic that is really go to your site.

Bottom line, more traffic to the article dirs, less traffic to your site. Not a good trade-off.

Why not driving traffic DIRECTLY to your site? You r site will benefit from this.

    Cheers!

if you would like to submit your article in directories, you can writer another related article and submitting to those directories, with your site links in article content, if will gain double.

Sounds right to me. Google sends me most of my traffic and they will not display more than one copy of my articles. The only reason that I would post my articles on other websites is if (like Perry said) I were to get substancially more traffic than from the SE's. I have yet to find a directory like this. Suggestions are welcome.

it is a good practice to have different articles for your site and for the articles directories, or you can spin them
