If paypal locks accounts so much then why don't you just withdraw?

If paypal likes to freeze accounts why do people keep ridiculous amounts on their paypal accounts? I would certainly never keep 640 dollars on my paypal account when I can just deposit it in my bank. I mean what is the point of it...?

The point is that some people do a lot of buying or trading, or buying presents or there is a special only for a day.
Accounts don't always get locked or frozen..

    Well yeah I know.
So people actually get frozen because they don't bother to transfer funds to their banks? lol
Wow nice... this has got to be the funniest saddest thing I've heard today. People can simply withdraw the money to their banks and prevent losing hundreds of dollars. I for surely will withdraw ASAP when I get money in my paypal.

People get their accounts limited not because they have existing balances in their paypal accounts but rather because they are suspected of breaching some terms of their contract. As long as you deal above board and within the terms of the contract, there is nothing to worry about.

I do keep balances in my account until I get good exchange rates since I am not in the US but nowadays the US dollar seems to be dropping every day and it just does not make any sense keeping balances and seeing the exchange rate falling.

Eddy, that's a gross understatement right there. I don't think that people have a full understanding of exactly WHAT paypal IS. I really can't be bothered explaining why you're wrong Eddy, simply because you wouldn't believe me, you've never had it happen to you and because you trust Paypal. Read the paragraphs and paragraphs or complaints and confessions of ex-paypal employees at www.paypalsucks.com who were literally forced to close people's accounts for NO good reason and practically scam them of their money.

No one can fight Paypal in court unless Paypal have scammed them for $7000+, because the court fees are so high that no one can afford to do it, especially not poor innocent people (like some on DP). The only person who is standing up to Paypal (aka. Ebay) is David Mehmet, you can see the full list of his court arrangements etc... at paypalsucks.com

Anyway, you guys put too much trust in Paypal, I will admit, it's really convenient and perfect if you never get "caught" doing something suspicious (no matter how un-suspicious it may seem), however, just know that it may be you who gets your Paypal locked/suspended for no reason some day... Estimated 2.5M+ people have their PP locked.

    Jack.

what would constitute as suspicous. A large transfer, multiple large transfers, etc....... ?

I have been with paypal since 2005 and have never had any troubles with many transfers a day. However it is all legit and my account is verified / merchant account.

Anyone have any particular cases in which the account was locked and why?

From what I understand, if you provided accurate information and if your accounts can limited for whatever reasons, you will have the rights to withdraw your balances after 180 days. I don't see that as theft or scam. Of course, if you provided fake information then there is no way you can withdraw.

Most I see from here from those with accounts limited are those who uses Fake IDs, VCC, Fake documentations, access from non-paypal countries, underaged, those who cannot provide proof of delivery and those without proper sales documentations. Some have more than the permitted number of paypal accounts (1 personal + 1 premier/business) or those who use personal accounts for sales.

Too many people use 'Send Money' option instead of the Paypal Invoice option for sales.

Personally, I don't keep any money in my PayPal account.

If I buy something I let PayPal draw against my bank account. I'm not particularly worried about my account getting frozen. I just like to keep my money close and where it's easily accessible. Plus it's a lot easier to keep track of how much I have since everything passes through my bank.

IF you are not breaching their terms and using correct details, then you should not be worried about limited account.

I do not think paypal would freeze your account without reason

They once put a hold on my account for a few days as I used virtual credit card for verification. Then I gave them a real credit card with ID proof and they unblocked my account within hours.

So, just be genuine and real and they would never block you

Paypal keeps bothering me every now and then asking contacts and invoices from my suppliers when I just sell personal stuff, mostly used stuff I don't use anymore! They even asked me proof of delivery for items whose buyers already left positive feedback on ebay causing me unnecessary trouble.

My account is not locked because I provided almost all the info they requested, less the suppliers info - which obviously I don't have - and other ridiculous claims, but as I said before they used to froze it on a regular basis which was very annoying.

Plus, they seem to enjoy this and take pride on being stupid. My driver's license carries my address, and constitutes the most faithfull proof of address in my country. Needless to say they don't accept it as proof of address and prefer to trust in a utility bill that any 5-year old can fake with 5 minutes of photoshop.

    That's paypal! Not for me!

I think they might work well for US and UK residents, but that's all.

You could actually withdraw it and then when you need to buy something then just pay through your credit card. I find this a better solution especially if you are not from the US since the US dollar is dropping every day and keeping your money in Paypal, the value would drop each day.
