Exactly pingpong123 * Hezbollah, meaning "Party of God" in Arabic, shares the Shi'ite Islamist ideology of the Iranian state and was set up by Iran's Revolutionary Guards in 1982 to fight Israeli forces that had invaded Lebanon. Hezbollah still has strong support from Tehran. It is also backed by Damascus. The group is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States. http://www.reuters.com/article/newsMaps/idUSL0984081820080510 Having worked in Lebanon for years and contracted to Saudi-Oger Rafik Hariri many times during 13 years spent working in the region, I take a keen interest in all activities in Lebanon It appears that there is news coming in that Hezbollah are going to withdraw from West Beirut http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/ACEF0211-6A82-48E9-B1FC-0C0EDCD5E850.htm Lebanon's opposition has begun withdrawing its fighters from the streets of Beirut, handing control to the army, after seizing much of the city in battles with government supporters. Lets hope for the best in the coming days
All opposition groups, Hezbollah, Hamas, etc, are listed as terrorist organizations by the United States, meaning the govements of those countries are backed by America. Where as, MKO an opposition to Iran, which actually is a terrorist organisation, is not listed as an terrorist organisation by the United States. All falls nicely for Israel, in every possible angle you look at it.
Yep british guy exactly. There was over a million illegal syrian workers in lebanon working there illegally also ,bleeding their economy dry and hezbolla sat back and did NOTHING!!! This is the great resistance force in lebanon?????? None of these pro hezbolla posters here even mention or read up on it. For pete's sake , when i was in lebanon they were all over the place. You had lebanese students who were studying for degrees yet they couldnt find side work because of this.In the mean time the syrian currency was going up while the lebanese currency was going down the drain. Its amazing that as soon as hezbolla says ireal, all the pro hezbolla people here forgive them for letting all this bs happen in lebanon. Who in lebanon can even dare to say a word against syria or hezbolla without fear? What happened to the future tv station of hariri? Wasnt it closed down? Who just closed it down? How come hariris men didnt go ballistic? Imagine if hariris men came and closed down hezbollas tv station. It was would have war in lebanon instantly and hezbolla would have branded them isreali traitors. Come on people use common sense.
All reports saying the druze gave hezbolla a bloody nose up in their mountain region. An incredible display of courage from few that stood up to many. These mountain villagers took the decision to stand up on their own to hezbolla, i dont agree with how brutal they were to the ones that surrendered(there should always be compassion , even in war) but the druze fighters are known as the most couragious and most viscious(when ur a friend they treat you the best, when your an enemy they will be animalistic towards u). Parents were telling me a story about how they massacred 500 christian lebananese during the civil war. I guess in this civil war home turf means alot and this is mountain fighting which is very different then the battle hezbolla had against isreal in 2006.
Oh so this is where you are getting the propaganda from, your parents. Please show sources with all the claims you make it is mandatory in any debate
sweetsara its all over the forums. Ill try to find the other links later. Even iranian state tv(the most unbiased one of all for this situation) says at least 17 hezbolla fighters killed in the druze mountain region. http://today.reuters.com/news/artic...US-LEBANON.xml&WTmodLoc=NewsHome-C1-topNews-6 This link shows at least 14 hezbolla gunmen killed. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2008-05/12/content_6675950.htm The latest clashes followed allegations by Hezbollah on Saturday that Jumblatt loyalists killed two of its members and held Jumblatt responsible for the safe return of a third member who was missing. It seems to me still that ur supporting hezbolla blindly without knowing anything about the lebanese situation. Its obvious that hezbolla knows now for sure it cant win a free election, so they will take lebanon over village by village, turn it over to the army and then take over the government and village, trying to make people believe that it is a legitimate power in lebanon. The lebanese will never surrender to this kind of brutal takeover. Now sweetsara i want you to bring some facts as to why you support hezbolla so blindly being that ur not even lebanese and havent even lived there and dont even know the political situation isreal has left that small parking lot called the sheba farms a few years ago. everyone in the middle east know they have no designs on taking over lebanon. Now tell us why hezbolla has gone against the taif aggreement agreed to by the arab league and every former lebanese sectarian group to turn in their weapons. They think they can take over the country and they dont even want an election do they . Why are u a pro hezbolla supporter , may i know this?
USA was supporting ,helping to fight against Hizbullah the organization "Mostakbel". USA had spent around 60 million dollars for that group. But they couldnt be successfull with fighting against Hizbollah. One of them talked to Los Angeles Times that , you can not create an army in one year with spending millions. Fighters dont want fight only for money, there need to be moral side of the fighting against Hizbollah. Some of fighter from Mostakbel , are changed their side, they are now with Hizbollah
Im sorry but part of that american funding had provisions in it. One provision in any arms deal between america and lebanese groups is that nothing heavy can be bought because they were afraid that the weapons would be used against isreal, but soon these groups will turn elsewhere for their weapons. Most of lebanon is against hezbolla and even general aoun has been rumored to be talking secretly with members of the march 14th group. These are private security companies and yopu cant turn private security companies into a well trained militia like hezbolla. One group coming over to hezbollas side means nothing when most of lebanon is against it. Like i said before if hezbolla didnt have their weapons no one in lebanon would have a need to defend themselves. Do you see any statues of bush in lebanon anywhere? Thats right, a big fat nooooooooo, do you see any statues of isreali leader in lebanon? Thats a big fat nooooooooo. DO U SEE ANY STATUES OF SYRIAN LEADERS IN LEBANON? THATS A BIG FAT YESSSSSSSSSSS. DO YOU KNOW WHO ERECTED THESE STAUES AND WHERE THEY ARE AT? tHATS RIGHT THEY ARE AT THE MAIN HEZBOLLA CHECKPOINT RIGHT BEFORE BAALBAK BEGINS. I WAS THERE AND I WITNESSED THEM PERSONALLY. Why dont you pro hezbolla people go and visit them in the south and you will see it for yourself or better yet here it is. http://www.flickr.com/photos/14699363@N06/2101329439/ Statue of Syrian president Hafez al-Assad, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon Im tired of this hezbolla bs. This shows clearly that they have never been lebanon first and dont care about the lebanese people. Hitler also did many good things for the german people, does that mean he was a good? Like i said Ziya, if hezbolla didnt start to appear to be a threat and turned their weapons in and become part of the lebanese country, these other militia groups wouldnt be starting to arm themselves. What would do if a militia was in america or any other country and wanted to turn that country into a proxy for anotehr country's war? You would defend yourself right?
pingpong123 what is the latest news on this case ? Dont you want share with us ? It seems they had agree crisis deal
It seems like some sort of aggreement has been reached. For now i believe that general sleyman(i know i didnt spell it correctly) will be the head of state. He is currently the general of the lebanese army(not much of an army). I think this seems like a decent deal that allowed both sides not to lose much face, but the biggest thing that should be addressed down the road should be the weapons of hezbolla, and syria holding alot of influence over lebanon. If syria and isreal come to a major peace deal, this would render hezbollas weapons meaningless as lebanon will soon follow syria into making peace with isreal also. The major problem here is syria wants the golan heights back, and that is a major military strategic point here. If they dont get the golan heights back they will keep lebanon under its control and in chaos, if they do get the golan heights back syria will suddenly turn on hezbollla and demand that they give up their weapons which hezbolla wont give up easily. but the majority of the shiites will want peace at that point and that could make things messy in lebanon. Hezbolla got their veto power in the government and 13 parliament seats against 16 seats by the anti syrian government. It was higher than 16 but that was conveniently cut down thanks to a few car bombings and assasinations. hezbolla is no longer the key here. They got more government power which is what they wanted. Syria is the key. In conclusion is syria and isreal make peace they will turn against hezbolla and it will be forced into giving up its weapons, another words iran will be isolated. Syria has always been a very pragmatic and opportunistic nations, and knows how to grab breadcrumbs when given to it and still come out smelling ok. This is gonna get interesting folks.
I m glad they all agreed on something that will prevent Lebanon civil war, this alone is a great achievement, and hopefully it will be a habit in future. p.s. you spelled it right in Lebanese accent, I think media would use "Sulaiman " as in classical Arabic.
thanks Imad, i agree also . I just hope that all lebanese will want peace in lebanon and expell all foreign influence from lebanon. The lebanese people have suffered so long and should start thinking about peace and their childrens lives. Even though i consider myself american(parents are lebanese), i still would love to see lebanon and every other country on this planet in peace and harmony with each other.
i hate to say it but i told you so. i hope the govt of lebnon start paying attention to the needs of the south.not after they finish with the rest.
This has nothing to do with the south Pizzaman. Again to understand lebanon you also need to understand teh demographics of the whole region. This peace aggreement will only last as long as a peace is made betweeb isreal and syria. This is why i say that hezbolla is controlled mainly by foreign interests first, its own interests second and lebanons interest last. The true test of hezbollas committment to peace in lebanon is when will they give up their weapons. Hezbolla will find out later that if syria makes peace with isreal the lebanese will forgive them for turning their weapons on their fellow lebanese but they wont forget for the future. If syria-isreal makes peace ,syria will doa complete 360 degree turnaround and be against hezbolla and demand that they turn in their weapons. Iran says on the outside that they welcome this deal and the negotiations between syria and isreal but on the inside they fear it because that will isolate them from their arab neighbors. Trust me the sunni lebanese that hide all of these hezbolla militiamen during the 2006 war wont ever forget what hezbolla did. Do you really think they will hide them in their houses this time?
yes i understand all of these. it is you that don't understand. the shia support of hizbolah has a lot to do with services they provide, which the govt does not. hixbolah has to get the money from iran and syria because the govt does not give them and in return they push the iranian agenda. if the govt provides these services then the hizbolah is not needed by the shia.or hizbolah has to change to fit the people's demand. strong govt does not mean a govt that can defeat all the faction but a govt that helps its people and is even handed. the lebenese govt left the shia for hizbolah to provide for, and that is why they became powerful. as far as the peace goes there is already secret agreements on everything and they are trying to gain public support. i have been saying this for about a year now. and the aims is to reduce the iranian influence.
