Here is something I have been pondering for a long time, I just re-thought about it this morning and would like to find the answer... no better place to bring it to then my Brothers and Sisters here at DP.

    Okay here we go...

If you were blind your entire life....since birth...so you have never seen anything at all.... When you go to sleep at night...do you dream like seeing people do..with colors and pictures and sounds....like a movie...??? If you've never seen anything...how could you dream...?

I hope this queston makes sense to anyone other than me. It's just something I've always wondered...and like I said..no better place for the answer.

I agree, and i have thought about that to. I think you dream of events that you can relate to and therefore i don;t believe blind people dream of physical images, colours etc... what is more likely that they dream of other senses such as touch and smell. Just my opinion :)

Wow... that's actually a good question. How can you dream if you haven't seen anything?

Wonder what the answer is. Maybe they have their own "dreams" ? Only way is to ask someone that's been blind since birth.

I guess such people also dream. There dreams must be same as their reality....with just sounds; and maybe odd images.

Dreams are a creation of the mind, so I don't see any reason why the blind can't dream.

You dont see dreams if you are blind. Dream is caused by your eye movement during the sleep, so if your eye is sensitive, you see the dreams, if not, you don't

    Similar question:
Do very bilingual people dream in one language, both (in one dream) or both (different language on different days)?

By very bilingual I mean more than just can speak a language fluently but has lived and spoken in a country with a different language for a good amount of time.

great question..... i would think you would hear the voices and such of the culture the dream is taking place in. I dunno....my dreams are like movies starring me. But I only speak English.

Nevetheless...I like the way you think.

I read a poem once wrote by an indian lady (I think) who moved to England,

That pretty much clears it up, as long as she weren't lying to sell poems :)

Yeah that's Search For My Tongue by Sujata Bhatt - I remember doing it for GCSE English a few years ago as part of the poems from other cultures unit.

Also, would be interesting to see what language very bilingual people think in. I learn Chinese from someone (she lives in UK to go to University, otherwise she spent the rest of her life in China, but she speaks and writes better English than 95% of native English speakers). She does all her maths in her head in Chinese because it's easier logically, but she switches between English and Chinese when she thinks about language. Chinese is a very lazy language grammatically, so it amazes her how people can think in English sometimes.
