Well done on increasing your traffic but I can't agree with your first statement - It is well known that search engine traffic is more important than any other type of traffic. Search engines drive traffic through keywords, but that's only one way of targeting. With intelligent use of forums in your niche, and networking through social network sites - properly networking and not just using them to spam, you can target by interests and demographics. Different types of sites do better with different ways of getting traffic, but the healthiest for long term success is a mix - don't put all your eggs in one basket.
I started to realize your comment is right since I noticed when referring traffic goes down, searching engine traffic goes down too. Good point, I need to work more on social media traffic now!
I agree with Magda, forums are great sources, as well as social sites. Spread your eggs into several baskets.
Though I am new on all this things, I was able to learn some things from your post and would basically agree on the forum as well as social bookmarking sites. They actually earn you good traffic. On the other hand, article writing can also deliver most especially if the article submission sites that you join share revenues on their income. So it like hitting two birds with one stone. You gain traffic as well as earn from the articles you have submitted. Another great option would be is to comment on blogs and leave your blog url. This way, bloggers will also visit your site and perhaps make a comment on yours.
Great post and congrats on the success. Have you tried using sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, Backpages and similar sites like that. I've been able to increase many of my search rankings by building pages at these sites.
I have left comments. This is great to do. I need to do more. Leave comments on blogs in the same niche with good PR can get a lot of back links. Among the best is webware.com.
NetMark they work well. I suggest building them out a little bit and not just using them for a link and thats it. There can be some great potential with these sites especially Squidoo if used right. Also I forgot to mention Blogger is great too. -Brandon
First time reading that article. I really haven't seen it have a negative outcome on my sites. I use Squidoo to build out a solid lens on the subject and link it to my main site. I'm trying to get my main site to rank instead of driving traffic to my Squidoo Lens.
Now, Here is the bad news. When I got my google search traffic ca 700 daily. I thought it will be good to clean my posts which I blog on everything and focus on the three areas: consumer products, travel and education. I deleted almost half of the posts and sent all the links to 404. But the consequence is awful. I quickly lost more than 40% search traffic! Now I get back most of the deleted posts and google search is back up, to almost 600 now! Netmark
