Warning about Windows XP Service Pack 3 I had a fresh install of WinXp Sp2 on my spare machine and I could never boot back up again. So, I pop in the XP SP2 disk to reinstall and I get all kinds of strange errors. One error, half way through setup, even told me to put the disk in the drive, even though it was already. I could not reinstall XP. However, if I put in the Vista disk, it went just fine. I tried the XP disk on another PC and it worked perfectly. So, seems that Microsoft is trying to force us to vista using illegal methods. Thank God Dell decided to go back to XP, or else I'd never buy Dell again. The specs on that PC: P4P800-VM Mobo 3.06 GHZ Pentium Celeron 1 GB DDR PC3200 Dual channel Ram 10,000 rpm hd 52x cdrom
what???????????????????????????????????? in the title you say "Warning about Windows XP Service Pack 3" but in the post you are talking about XP SP2
That's the reason why I never install a service pack when it is just out . Prefer to let others try out and report the bugs first.
Do you mean XP SP2? Anyhoo, whether it's SP2 or there's an SP I'm unaware of I wouldn't be surprised if M$ was trying to drive any and everyone into installing Vista.
I am using XP SP3, and so far my PC has done nothing wrong. Infact, it more smoother and faster. @Whoever said get a Mac, there are viruses for Macs. By saying Macs are Virus Free, Steve Jobs is inviting hackers to create Virus's for Macs too.
I think the point he was making is that if you go to SP3 you can't downgrade to SP2 and you have to go to Vista as Next step. And that SP3 caused him issues.
I agree with your take on what the OP said. But it would be easy to go back to SP2. Format C: And install fresh will always work. Sometimes you might have fdisk and fdisk /mbr.
I have nearly 300gb worth of development, programs and set up on my computer I would not appreciate having to format because of an SP update lol. They never feel the same after you format, its like there missing something
I have installed sp3 via automatic updates and it went fine. Maybe there's a conflict with one of your programs?
Installation of service packs always cause problems on some percentage of PCs. Its not a new thing. So, I don't think Microsoft is forcing anyone to buy Vista using this method!
but it's not something that would trigger the automatic UD? I have both my PC's set to auto notify and no dice on either of them!
