Is it worth it ?

Every day I get emails saying I found your site and bla bla bla we would like to exchange links. If I did this there would be page after page of links. Questions is is it worth linking to these sites or is it just a waste of time. To me it seems like a good one way link is worth a hundred of these exchange links. What is everyone else doing. My site ranks good, getting decent traffic, nice search results, do I really need to link to all of these sites ?

I never respond. I don't think the reciprocal links would result in a net gain... and I bet that most of the links would not in the end be reciprocal... (I.e., they might remove the link, etc.)

    Just one noob's opinion...

hey - too many links WILL dilute your pagerank , and many other google stats.

    LINKS ARE INCREDIBLY VALUABLE.

Do not waste your links on people that A) won't help you and B) possibly have a bad rep with the SERPS for blackhat methods etc. If you link to them, google may penalize you. But also ask yourself why they want a link partnership ???
if they can't get high on organic content, they really aren't worth the effort.

My advice - Look at the site. If it looks like a real site where somebody is trying to build real content, be open to an even exchange. If it looks like a new spammy site, or site with little content that appears to be going nowhere, just ignore it.

And of course, save a list of every site and page that is linking back to you. Check every so often, and if it's gone remove yours.

I think you should exchange links with people, but only if it's a A B C link exchange and if the site that will link to you is in your niche (contains the keywords you are after).

This way both websites (yours and one of the other webmaster's) will get an even one way link, which is good in the eyes of Google.

I check out the site and I also check the PR of the site. If the site has 3 or more PR, you can bet I'll exchange links!

I often received such type of emails and despite I never paid attention to any of them, overtime I found the senders linking to my site anyway.

Before I link to them I checked their site and their link pages, where they will put my link. If the page is ok and the site is relevant to my site then I do exchange.

If it looks somewhat acceptable blog then go for it. Ive had people contact me anonymously through whois email or through blog commenting and I exchanged with them.

Most of the times I just don't respond.
However if it's a strong site I might actually consider exchanging links.
