You only waited 2 days for the entries to come in, if you provide clear feedback as to what you're after (and give the designers enough time to revise their entries), you'll get the ones which best suit your needs.
2 days out of 5! I don't want to have to sit here giving feedback for last minute entries and... as I've held successful competitions before, I know exactly how time consuming it can be and how it can often over-run because of last minute entries. It is my contest & therefore my perogative to make that decision. If you want to enter, then please do so. Providing my own vision of what I'm looking for ... is about as clear as it can get!!! It saves time on both sides does it not? I made my logo in 10 minutes, I imagine the talented designers amongst you will be able to do a very much better job and as a consequence, one of them shall earn $50 or 70 $'s as a result. If you're not up to the challenge, then please stop wasting my time & your energy in posting pointless & negative comments in my thread. Thankyou.
I don't need advice or irrelevant statements. I've made my situation very clear and contrary to your comment, I have had 2 or 3 winners that entered very early on in the contest, which gave me time to leave good quality feedback and afforded them the time to make the necessary changes. In fact the most talented designer I have personally encountered on dp entered on the first day & was still adjusting it on the last.
Eskarina has held successful contests here and has seen them to completion. I for one appreciate how it's being handled instead of just abandoning the contest. As she said, if someone can design something better than what she has posted up (better to her), then give it a try.
i don't really see how prematurely closing the contest with a caveat is much different from just closing the contest. it's a nice gesture on part of the CH but amounts to the same thing practically. i am not trying to pick a fight here. it's my first contest with eskarina, so i'm not really familiar with how she operates. for all i know you may be right xpressions about her integrity. but what throws me off as an entrant is to have "contest closed for obvious reasons" put up without waiting for even a first round of revisions. adding "feel free to improve on my design if you wish" doesn't really make things better, when the statement it follows is "i'm happy with the header i made". put yourself in the entrants' shoes. we are basically being forced to ask her to buy our work instead of something that she is happy with and did not have to pay for. not a good place to be for an ethical designer. further complication: if i decide to take eskarina at her word, put aside my reservations and continue with the contest, wouldn't that be putting pressure on the CH to prove her word by awarding the prize just because she said she would? again, ethical dilemma. it's a prickly thing. easier to cut my losses altogether. eskarina, maybe you mean what you say. maybe this is just a case of poor wording. but next time i suggest going DIY before starting a contest, and not using the words "contest closed" unless you mean it. thanks.
[quote me] If anyone would like to try and improve on it please feel free to do so, [end quote] You're making it far more complicated than it really is & to be frank, I'm no longer interested in working with you. I apologise that you feel I have cheated you somehow & wish you luck in your future contests. And for the record l3fty, in the past I have ended up paying a lot more prize money than my original contest posts & no-one complained about the change in the goal-posts then! If a member here comes up with something twice or four times better than my amateur job (& it's entirely possible), then rest assured, they will receive a fair price whether it costs me twice as much. If you were capable of coming up with the goods, then you sadly just talked yourself out of a potential job and future recommendations.
This complaining is all out of proportion. Yes, she probably could have worded it differently than 'contest closed' but ultimately what she did is no different than what a lot of contest holders do, provide a mock-up of what they want. Obviously the designs you all submitted weren't what she was after so she's tried to help people see the style or whatever that she's after. That's a good thing surely! Ah well, I hope this reaches a good outcome!
In all fairness what I actually said was... If anyone would like to try and improve on it please feel free to do so, otherwise the competition is closed for obvious reasons. OTHERWISE translates to = If no-one wanted to try and improve on it ........... and let's face it, there is plenty of room for improvement !!! When I made that statement I was fully confident there would be designers interested and fully capable of taking on my challenge. And Davey Boy ... you did my first fab logo - I was hoping you might join in
I love your concept tababongchi I'd be very interested to work with you judging by your sketch & your excellent portfolio. Thanks fort your entry
Here is a small thing I did: If you like any aspects about it, or want me to add something just email me at
Judging by Bong's idea and quality of his portfolio, I'd like to declare him winner & am very excited about it Thanks for joining in Bong, I was afraid some of the negative comments would lose me a good design
Thank you so much for choosing my design Esk. I'll be glad to work on the final rendered version then.
