Yes, Im told I have to deal with the third party and not the registrating body who took my money for a domain name. I guess if I don't park it at this particular 'third party' Ill be ok. My intended site will just show up on the internet and Ill be fine. It bothers me that there's 2 domains wandering around with the same name though. Haven't run into this before. Im the legitimate owner according to WHOIS, though, so what can I do ? Have written to the third party 'parking' company but it don't want to reply. Thanks
What do you mean two domains, thats confusing and not possible i dont think. Are you saying there are two domains becuase you see a parked page when you visit the domain?
It's indeed confusing, especially if it's a .com being discussed here. Pentelupe, you might want to contact your domain provider to make sure that the domain name is indeed registered to you and paid for.
My understanding of the situation is: You chose a domain name and decided to buy it. Once bought, it appears that there is another domain with the exact same URL as your own. Checking whois db's shows you as the owner. The other domain (the one not belonging to you) is a parked page. The registrar wont work with you to resolve this and sent you off asking questions to someone else. Is that about right so far? Sorry i can't answer your question. (It sounds like an oddfest from outer space.) It sure is an odd one. DK
Login to your domain account and Change the nameserver to something different than that of the parking company.
If a 'registrar' sold you a domain name, said 'registrar' will also allow you to change your dns entries through them. I have never run across one that hasn't done this Change your DNS entries to your host recommended settings and you'll be fine. Most likely, you bought the domain, and your registrar 'parked' it, trying to gain a couple extra bucks from it.
Well I can see I've created a bit of a flurry. I simply bought a .net domain. Went to park it and was told that I should check the spelling as there was already one in the system ! I discovered that my very same url was indeed online - not exactly 'parked', but in a similar situation, it had content issued to it. In fact the 3rd party generates content for domains - So I had to take my sorry little url and disappear. No word from the 3rd party! Yeah nice. No point in blaming the registry they think they've done nothing wrong. Nada - but I guess Ill just DNS it somewhere else, which is what I planned to do anyway. Just wanted to see what they'd stick on it - well I can anyway as there's 2 in the system - complex ...
To answer your question re the registrar and the 'third party' dont think I can for obvious reasons -
Sometimes it takes time to change the dns so if you have done that already like everyone else is proposing you to do, check it through a domain dns service if actually they changed at your place.
I just changed the DNS. But no joy, maybe it'll change over in a day or 2. Usually it takes virtually no time at all I find. Thanks
Progation times for DNS varies, they do normally stipulate 24 hours but in my experience it only needs a couple hours. Give it until tomorrow and see what its like then
Yes ! My domain propogated or whatever the word is to me. The domain converted to a wordpress site blog. Mystery is done, solved. Thanks to all... not really 'solved' as I don't know why it happened. But thanks to all again. I'll visit this thread more often. Lifes good (whoops credit LG)
If you find out what happened Please post back and let us know as this would be good knowledge to have on the backburner. Thanks
Hi No spoke too soon, half the time its my site that Im setting up (word press) and half the time the browser brings me to the other 'same url' site. Is there something different about urls I don't know? For example if I registered as www.howtoplayvolleyball.net instead of http://www.howtoplayvolleyball.net - will I be getting a different site that way? Now I've given you the sites in question - but I guess it doesn't matter. One's mine - a nothing much wordpress and the others a fully operational bright blue thing. Now I don't even want to continue with it !
Actually i had the same problem, when i bought a domain and pushed i only set a primary name server (NS1) i left (NS2) as it was. Since my understanding is that if NS1 goes down or is uncontactable the DNS switch over to the secondary name server - since my Name Server was hosted at the same location as my website if the NS went down so would my site, and therefore pointless setting up the secondary NS (NS2) pointing to the same server. HOWEVER, this is NOT the case, when the change happened half my visitors saw my new site in the new location and the other half saw the old site at the old location wtf? Why would half my visitors be using my second NS and not my primary, well, i dont know, all i know is that setting up my secondary name server to point to the same location i.e. NS1.SOMEDOMAIN and NS2.SOMEDOMAIN my problems were solved. My want to see if both NS are pointing to the correct location.
