MMORPG Money - What Do You Think?

Since MMORPGs became popular 5 years ago, players have turned to independent sellers, companies and even other gamers to buy "in-game" currency. This is a controversial issue; some players object that this gives an unfair advantage to those who can afford to buy currency, whilst others claim that the practice of "farming" currency leads to the exploitation of workers.

    What do you think?

I wish it wasn't against the ToS for nearly all MMOs...I have a lot of stuff that I'd like to sell since I don't play anymore. :D

Well, I think there are a lot of money in MMORPGS. I have a very good example for this. Have You heard about Poject Entropia? It is a MMORPG, where You can buy game currency for real money and vice versa, You can sell game currency for real money. Sometime a go (about 1 year) there was a guy, who bought an island for 50,000$ on the game, just to let people to advertise and the island territory. But i personally think, that this kind of investmend is too young to go more serious, for now it is "only for the chosen", that can do a lot of investment and haev some time to waut, until it grows in power.

Look at the example of SecondLife. It's got real money coming in at a superfast rate and it IS proving profitable.

There is huge money in this however you need a completely one of a kind unique in depth game. I personally feel fallensword.com makes a fortune with 1.5 million players and a few other ones even more. I did my homework. Even had a project bid set up at getafreelancer.com .. The average bid to build one that in depth is over 60k but I bet they make that per month with the currency system and upgrades. I'm still trying to put together funding for a project like this.
These clone scripts you see all around are good for making a couple thousand bucks but why waste the time when something unique and "Cool" makes Big Bucks.

Believe it or not, there are a bunch of MMORPG's gamers that earn their living on trading/selling online games currencies, they even take this job as their main resource income as well...

I'm one of those. I've made as much as $25,000/month trading MMORPG currency.

Very cool bro, I considered doing that on a larger scale with a few friends but we were too afraid of getting our accounts shut down. Would you be able to disclose how you're able to get around the ToS for MMOs?
