    Rivers is right - focus on your other pages. If you have content in your FAQ then focus on that content and not the page itself.

    From a usability perspective though, I'd go with /faq/ or /faq.php instead of /frequently-asked-questions/ or /frequently-asked-questions.php

    Yeah, Dan is right. You should target on content.

    And do you two have any evidence to back this up or are you just pulling claims out of the æther?

    evidence is common sense....

    long tail keywords are always better in your url and title.

    never just put faq...good luck ranking for it.

    atleast if you dont rank for the whole long tail..then you might rank for parts of it.

    IMO, URL name does not have any relation with the SERP's ranking.

    Still each and every page of my website are like index-1.html..... and so on...

    Still i am getting good rank in serp's.... this is the major evidence.

    Well how much the content is fresh, unique, rich and descriptive chances of getting rank higher will increases.

    Common sense != evidence.

    Actually casinouk, the URL name can have an impact. It won't be much of an impact, but using keywords appropriately in a Web page's URL can be beneficial when done properly. It's just that optimizing for the phrase "frequently asked questions" just isn't worth the effort it takes most of the time - unless you're making an FAQ site, in which case it's best to include the topic the site covers (such as a baseball FAQ or an SEO FAQ) to it. As for an FAQ page or section though, it's just not worth it, since the ROI (return on investment) would be VERY, VERY low to begin with (which is why I said earlier that the content on the FAQ page is far more important than the URL itself).

    I think both URL are the same for SEO.

    The real thing that matters is the number of back link and the anchor text used in the back links.

    I never heard before that the kind of url(the way it is written) influences your SEO. I know that backlinks and quality content helps your PR and are part of SEO. I ask for the previous comment: What do you mean by "the anchor text used in the backlinks"?

    This is quoted from Wikipedia:

    If you just want to target the keyword "faq", you are competing with a big site such as gamefaqs.com and try searching faq in google, you will get over 2 billion results.

    Do a lot of research before you add keyword labeled sub pages. Makes sure you have the right Keywords.
