Hello guys, I am in the process of creating a new site. I want to hear some opinions on rotating banners? Do you believe it has been a major benefit to your bottom line? A lot of affliate programs use banners and I haven't seen a lot of post talking about rotating banners. What do you guys normal do? Post a banner on your site for a certain period and change it out or do you use a banner management script to handle that? I found a couple of scripts I am interested in.
I use rotating banners on my blog. On average the banners bring in around 30% of my blogs monthly income.
I have read some people say that users have trained themselves not to look at banners so does this have any impact or is it just nonsense?
It's true and it does have an impact. For example, Digg users are good at ignoring ads, so if you get traffic from Digg, you better have CPM ads! It's just like watching TV. It's not hard to mute the TV during the commercials and only pay attention to the real content, so why would it be different online? But as far as rotating banners, that's a good idea if you get a lot of repeat traffic. If someone sees the same banner 50 times and doesn't buy, chances are they aren't buying that product at all. But if you show them 50 different banners, they might just buy something. However, if you find something that works, stick with it.
Depends on the banner and how relative it is to your site. Put them in strategic spots and do not create a banner farm and you should be good to make a few bucks
