Sorry if this is a silly question. I'm changing hosting from one provider to another. Domain name is staying the same, just simply changing DNS. I have wordpress installed at both places and simply plan on transferring files. Directory structure will be the same. Any SEO issues to worry about? Or, is it simply a matter of waiting for the new DNS to fully propagate? Thanks, John
I will be doing the same very soon, maybe today. Anyhow yes! You have to make sure that your new site at the new hosting is properly set up and ready to go before you change Nameservers. Otherwise google bot may crawl into your site and cant find the content, thus downgrading you in their results page.
Thanks, I'm in the sandbox at the moment (I believe) so that's not a huge concern. However, I will make sure everything is up and running properly, transfer all the files, etc. and then move it over. John
Is your DNS going to be in another country? The reason for asking is that lets say you have a UK domain and and you move to a DNS in India this could well effect your search engine results position.
DNS has very little/no effect on SEO, as long as the spiders can resolve your domain name, that's all they care about. Be more concerned about shared IPs for your website than DNS, but even that doesn't effect SEO much (unless you're hosting on the same IP as people peddling porn/gambling sites).
hmm, wasn't aware that a shared server could effect things. Is this true even with the big guys (GoDaddy, Hostgator, etc.)?
