Is dmoz still accepting sites in their directory? I have been trying to get some of mine in for a while.
DMOZ grows by around 1000 additional sites every day. What things have you been trying? Some of them may be counterproductive.
I'd like to know how many sites are submitted daily so one can see how productive such growth is... I do agree that some thing can be counter productive and that many are doing those things. By trying, you mean you've submitted ONCE and to the BEST category, with a site that complies with the overall guidelines of the directory, right? If that is not correct, then see the second part of dharmarucci'sd post on doing things which could be considered counter productive. If it is correct, then simply move on and forget about it. If it's added it's added, if its not, it's not... the only thing you can do is promote your sites by other methods and hope that your site is found in a timely manner.
I think Dmoz is approving the website. Recently one of my website has been listed in dmoz directory. It takes time. Also it checks the company. If a company have 7 websites on travel, the chance of approval is just 1 if you have added same contact information. And there is very less change of approval if the contact information is not mentioned in the website.
Hi Q, still trying to confuse everyone with your lack of knowledge on matters that don't befit you ? this is true because hundreds of Editors add sites they find content rich and worthwhile for the general visitor, on a hourly to daily basis . This is immaterial , as Editors are not required to wait for submissions .
What are you talking about? If you would like to point to me trying to confuse people, I'd like to see it. Otherwise you are just trolling. I bet you feel good that I took the bait... Funny what DMOZ considers proof. Tell me again who is trying to confuse the public? Your answer is even more immaterial then the question. Thank you for your 100% lack of a reply.
no Q , editors not Required to wait for submissions, but rather encouraged to hunt for sites to include. But then i don't expect you to understand that
I'd also not expect an actual answer from an active Editor on this forum. I understand that editors are NOT required to check for submissions, that actually has NOTHING to do with the question I asked. So thanks again... for nothing.
I can't/won't give you the answer but it's thousands. That seems to be a non sequitur. Listing suggestions are only part of the overall picture. To get some sort of handle on productivity, you'd also need to know how many websites editors have found for themselves and how many listings were temporarily removed by our QC tools. The overall growth figure already quoted takes such factors into account. Don't let's forget the structural and category maintenance/enhancement work either. That's productive too but doesn't show up in the overall growth figures. You were an editor Q. You already know that editing is not about adding websites at the behest of their owners.
That implies that you won't because you can't for some unknown reason, or that you can't because you are just being a big meanie head. As you are generally nice, I'll assume it's safe to think you simply do not know the answer to the question, as I know there are no guidelines saying you can't give that number. So thanks for the effort. It's certainly more then other editors give. Q
