Clickbank doesn't allow you to bid on certain keywords!

I got this email today, how do they know that I'm on this certain keyword, do they have a log of keywords I promote? is the trademark holder complaining to them?

But most of all how do I by-pass this. Start a new account, block my keyword some how? Please help.

It's common for affiliates to have terms that forbid bidding on certain keywords. They use a software that monitors who is bidding on certain keywords. You should follow their terms or you'll lose your account and not get paid. Opening a new account isn't going to solve this.

Run campaigns on the content network..bidding on trademark keywords on search will always get you caught, but content network is another story

thanks grayth, hopefully the traffics there.

Also mjewel fair response. I would love to keep this keyword, but would like to keep my account a little more.

There has to be a way around this, maybe asking permission from the TM holder, but the obvious answer is go with another publisher, like CJ or paydotcom.

    Thank Vene

It's just not trademarked terms, they get to set whatever policy they want on keywords. They do it because they want those keywords for themselves - and without you bidding on the keyword, their advertising costs are less.

Google isn't the trademark police - they allow bidding on TM's as long as the trademark holder hasn't notified them that they don't want to allow it. Sometimes the trademark holder allows bidding on TM's for their best or authorized resellers. It's their TM, and they get to decide who can and who cannot use it.

It's intellectual property. What would you do if you wanted to drive your friends car, or sleep on their couch? You'd ask them.

That wont help as it is the Advertiser who forbids the use so running to another network won't get you a way around the restriction.

Nobody ever said affiliate marketing would be easy,......

you have no ideal, i think i have a gift for finding banned or "gray area" keywords. I wish they would put up a list of keywords they don't want you to bid on.

Yes, "water 4 gas" is a registered trademark. Serial Number 77442177. The trademark holder may or may not be running an adwords campaign - It doesn't matter. If they don't want people using their trademark and have notified google, you can't use it.

The affiliate should have a list of keywords that you are not allowed to bid on - contact them if they haven't provided one.

If you start a campaign with a trademark, adwords will let you know if they have been notified if it is a protected mark for purposes of your usage.

Oh dear ... so is natural search an infringement? Or do then not want the sales?

It's about intellectual property not sales. You wouldn't use someones car without their permission, the same thing works in this case.

Take Apple for example. Apple is a fruit and it's also a trademark. You can use the term apple to sell baskets of apples on adwords, but you can't use it to sell apple computers. Why? Because you're profiting(benefiting) off someone else's intellectual property that they built, and not you. You put apple in the ads because people know what apple is and they identify with it. Why do they identify with it? Because Apple corporation spent millions in advertising to build up an apple brand. Once you start spending millions of dollars building a brand, maybe you'll start to understand why you don't want other people profiting off your brand.
