    I want to submit my website to as many free directories and article databases as possible. I read somewhere that vertical portals are also useful for reaching a target audience; all of these are good SEO.

    Submitting your site to relevant categories is helpful but the biggest boost you will get in relevance is submitting to complete sites with a similar theme.
