there might be lots of posts / threads in this forum - use search function to find all

as a basic rule SEO starts at the beginning
    and top to bottom
    of EACH page

    i.e.

    validdated HTML
    doc type
    <title>
    description
    H1
    H2
    folder-names
    file names
    domain name of course
    etc

Add fresh content in your site very often.

Build lots of backlinks. Try to get relevant and quality backlinks.

Search Engine Optimization for Dummies is a good starting point. SEO Bible seems like a good book too. SEO and web design are not separate, but they are two different games. If you want to design SEO friendly sites, knowledge of CSS is very important. You have to forget about the old table, flash, javascript heavy sites.

    Yeah James is right,
Start reading through various forum and online tutorials about seo and sem industry processes.
Otherwise starting with lack of knowledge will not bring success for your website.

Some of the best ones are just a few posts up.

The domain nane and TLD have two things to do with SEO - and Jack left town. Seriously - they're more psychological assets than anything. The only exception to the rule is if your primary keyword(s) is/are going to be in the domain name, but even that won't help very much by itself.

Building Backlinks is the #1 priority in SEO. Its the most time consuming aspect of SEO and it takes time to see results. Focus on backlinking.

Backlinks are futile if you don't have any content.

I would focus on content first, then chase some links.

I found some good books on amazon.

"Get to the top on Google" seems the best. I've done what it said but only finnished about a month ago so still waiting to see if it achieves the desired results.

Ya know whats weird about SEO .. when you see those sites that look like a kindergartener made them.. the real crappy ones , weird font, pixled old images, those web sites that make ya think stuff like "gosh dang" while repulsing.. The weird thing is when they dont seem to obey any of the SEO rules , yet you see some of them having a PR 5 and PR 6 ..obviously from back-links. That thought came up thought I would post about it..since the thought comes up now and you wonder how many other people seeing that stuff and thinkin the same sorta thoughts. It kinda makes me think that there should be two sections on SEO .. 1. SEO and 2. WTF?
for the two categories of sites that are out there that rank well.

DP could start a WTF? forum ..where people come in and say = "I dont know NUFFIN!~ about SEO ..but gosh darnit ..its working GREAT!" :)

sorry, just thinking in text .. I suppose I could be making paper airplanes with some aerodynamic principles that I 'feel' would be good .. even if not written in any books or physics. That's always fun too. why dont the cool airplane designs fly?..its as if physics has a 'if it aint stupid and bland lookin , it aint gonna fly'.

Mother nature sorta made the design on the perception then.. making things complex but then compressed into a simplest is best way. Like a leaf from a tree, its symetrical, looks somewhat simple. but then on a complex level has all that stuff in it..veins, and etc .. If you notice that seems to be how websites been evolving towards..aint that pretty much what all the people and SEOs are saying without actually saying it?

Make your site as user friendly as possible..but, make it complex as heck internally ..make it all work, make it all work simple! .. code the living crap out of it to make it do that! less page refreshes, Ajax popping up etc.
Since HTML would've been the simplest way of doing it ..but that wasn't good enough. It has to be complex, yet, degrees more simple than even HTML.

Mother Nature and the Paper Airplane Theory.. simple is best, but it has to have a layer of complexity. because too simple, it might fly but not very well.. make it aesthetically look good without the complexity though.. it just does a spiral twirl to the ground. So if your website was a new style of paper airplane.. how would you make it? ..how would it fly, or would it just look nice while spiraling like a one winged dove?..

We should compile the factors in the gosh awful simple sites that make it..the nice looking sites that dont fly, and the complex sites that try to over simplify everything, that seem to be running the top slots on the Internet. a ratings scale ? for Complexity, Simplicity of Use, Backlinks, What people think of it , what they actually do on the site.

Because thats another question..people always recite the phrase = "make your visitors stay on your site longer!"
everybody knows how to say that phrase but .. hardly ever you see any examples. the most common is like "use RSS.." and the ever famous recital= "use good quality content!" ...ever want to strangle people for saying that too much? j/k :)

I had an idea about that..since people will be using your site, and people tend to like to feel good about themselves. Maybe you could make a website titled = "I Like you.. You're Awesome!"
with the meta description = "Come to this site to find out why this site likes you ..a lot!"

I think the Internet is pretty much primed for a new era of stuff , maybe not that extreme and silly but somethin within the perception of that..since for years the Internet has been largely sites bait and switching.. luring people with great words, but then only trying to turn their personal feel good, into a 'OK, now that you're here, give us all your money!". Sites like that remind me of the basic street thug.. where they'll lure peoples around a corner to a dark alley saying = "check this out!" ..then thunk them over the head sayin = "gimme that wallet / purse"

    just some long post thoughts.

this is easy. The best seo practice is to be natural webmaster. Start off by lauching a site and updating it. Rotating the articles around various social media networks, let people know about it and before you know it you will be on your way.
