With all these issues concerning Tibet and security measures surrounding the Beijing Olympics 2008 (which is set to take place on August 8, 2008 --- yup, 888!), do you think this year's Olympics will prove to be secure, safe and successful?

I wish there won't be any violent incidents during the Olympics. Ever wondered what the pro-Tibetans will do during the Olympics?

I hope it will be successful, but given that it is such a prominent event, it can be an attractive target for any terrorist groups seeking fame and maximize impact on the world. Hopefully China can pass the security trial and organize a peaceful and successful Olympics.

The government is putting a lot of security in Beijing now so the pro-Tibetans are planning attack in other city in China

I do believe that there will be some adverse effect on the number of visitors. Still the way the Chinese handled the crisis had been extremely swift and open and had shown themselves to be able to handle serious disruptions with a clear head and stoic determination.

A successful Olympics will bring China closer to the world and vice versa. It will speed up the democratic process of China's political system. It is best to engage the Chinese and to bring them into the family of nations rather than have it isolated and full of hatred of the outside world. Myanmar is a perfect example of a regime in isolation.

I really hope it goes well for the China, though I feel that they may have rushed into this thing a little too early. China has done a great job at expanding their cities and playing the money game, but it's way too early to try to compete as a modern and developed nation, at the same level as countries like the US, Germany, UK and Japan.
