Smoking Should Be Banned In Bollywoog

I thinks Smoking should be banned in Bollywood.

    Here are my points:-

    It is bad for health.
According to stats 62% Indians start to smoke by seeing bollywood movies.

Putting dialoges or trailers don't work as - People tend to take the bad parts easily and not the good parts.

Actions speak better than words. When people see SRK smoking in DON in that way all that sticks in the mind is that coolness and not that he says its bad for health.

You can say that not all seeing movies start smoking but the point is that we should stop it however small it may be. Say if you jump on some nails. Will you say its good if only 2 of 10 people get pricked by nails.

And its not any crubbing of rights. Nothing which leads to harm of our future youngstars should not be any right to anyone.

And don't say if it is to be banned many other things should be banned. Would you not kill one of your enemy if you are not able to kill them all at once?

    Please share your thoughts.

I think Tension (not Bollywood) is the main reason of any kind of smoking .

I agree those who do it are idiots. But that doesnot mean we should not take steps to save them. Teenagers do these sorts of things as they are not mature. it is not really fair to call them idiots.

    Digitaldesigner,
Yes tension is a cause. But bollywood accounts to 62% of new smokers. these teenagers don't have tension, they do it just to be cool. I asked many friends why they smoke and they say it looks so cool on screen. By the way I am 18 and do you think I am saying this without any reason?

    Cheers

There was a similar trend in Hollywood through the 90's - you will notice that many movies in the last 15 years, when compared the the 15 years prior, have less smokers. Maybe Bollywood will eventually follow suit.

I agree with you that less smoking on movies would result in less smokers among teens, but it really all leads to the age old question, does life imitate art, or does art imitate life?

Yes , smoking being shown on screen does affects teenagers mind but
It's the responsibility of parents/guardians to tell and make them understand harms of smoking .

I am also not totally agree with you mate. I am seeing movies since 15 years and I am crazy about Bollywood movie and movie gossips but I never smoke at all. I think it is responsibility of your self that what you are grabbing from it. There is always two parts of each thing. one is bad and another one is good so it's totally upto you what you need to follow :)

Sad part is not everyone is mature enough to understand the ill effects. And most teenagers smoke just to seem cool. Indian, you are wise enough to understand it but most are not.

And come on,will a DON be any less a film without the smoking SRK? Though I am a huge SRK fan I am still saying this.

When it can be done without it then why not scrape it. Until then i tdepends on our wits and stenghth of mind to resist the temptation to smoke.

And Digitaldesigner, do you think it is possible for a partnt to have full control on a growing teen.

I don't smpke, nieter my family does. I am saying this as I am concerned about the future of the people in this country.

And most films are nowadays showing smoking which have no relation to the script, screenplay. Just insertingit out of nowhere like some wierd songs in the films.

I think adults will likely not pick up smoking because of seeing actors in movies, however younger 14, 15, 16, 17-years olds are likely to experiment as they are all in the process of defining themselves ... and plus the subconscious minds guide our actions in more ways than we can ever imagine ...

Its bad? Oh boo hoo, everything in life is bad for us, best to get over it.

Bad stuff is fun, it's always been that way lol...

nobody is forcing anyone to smoke by showing it in a film or production...everyone has a choice, and we deserve the right to smoke or not smoke, and trying hide it in the public eye isn't going to do much.

Oh yes even TV/VCR should be banned for that matter, anything you see in TV can affect you.
This is the biggest issue India has ever faced , but do not talk about billion dollar fake medicine industry, 50% reservation in premier institutes ,etc or for that matter multi billion dollar arms deal scam or MPs making jestures/using slang words , fighting with each others in front of live television .

A parent may not have full control on their children but can educate about what is good and what is bad .

Parent should educate their children from the very beginning about smoking .

If education is proper then there is very low chance of smoking because teenagers can decide themselves that smoking is harmful.

Bollywood does affect teenagers mind but blaming only bollywood is not right .

    Thanks !

Ranting about it here won't change anything, I would contact your government or someone with some powerful connections to see what can really be done about it, or make it your job to go around personally and tell people about the drugs and how you don't think they should be allowed. You may get a better response :)

I am not only blaming bollywood. I am saying that it is one of the causes which can be stopped.

And the Govt has banned glamourisation of smoking on screen but should be totally banned.

If not totally then only hiscorical charecters shouldd be shown smoking if needed only.

    Thanks.

No it shouldnt, because it is freedom of expression. You control your own habits, you dont have the right to moral police others.

Marcher is right - we don't have the right to police others, however you can do witht he US did and create an environment where people will police themselves. Here in the US, there was The Truth campaign and that made others be responsible for what they glamorized - if enough people voice what you voiced publicly, Bollywood would have no choice but to response because you all are Bollywood consumers ...
