Dear All I am new in this forum.2 month ago I have created a web directory (www(dot)alfadirectory(dot)net.My question is this :What type of strategy I need to use for its promotion.and till now I have not added adsense.What is the right time when i use adsense otherwise I just put is right now ?. Stay away from adsense on a directory and for promotion start by putting your site in your forum signature.
He's too young here to have a sig Bruce. Adsense on a content rich niche directory would be good, on a general free directory where only webmasters visit it'll be pretty useless.
Why are people so against adsense? I know it doesn't pay much but to some not much is worth something?
Anyone that's used adsense on a directory says the same thing, and there's a message there. I used it and it's not great, pretty useless, and I got less than £100 per month from it, so it's naff basically. I don't believe those stories of making £10k a month at all, it's just folks trying to wind up other folks. I get affiliate proposals all the time and they are naff too, but if you build a directory purely to get rich, it won't happen. Just the wrong kind of model for adsense and affiliate stuff.
What did those lazy boys at Yahoo just sell thier directory to MSN for ? What would business.com be worth a bag of peanuts just to name a few, even though in general terms i agree but in that again you seem to be stumping all comers. All i say is anything is possible and get out of your comfort zone you just never know, I'm all for people making the impossible or can't be done beating the ods
As usual Downunder - I agree with you. I think that sometimes we can all get entrenched into our own view of the world and forget that there are many ways to skin the cat. People can start a venture for whatever reason they want. You need to have a goal and I doubt anyone starts something hoping to go broke.

Emily, before creating a directory you should have made some sort of business plan if your sole aim was to make money. Perhaps taking a step back and doing a lot of research may be a better idea. You're not going to become the next BOTW overnight, directories need hundreds of hours of hard work and often require a good investment ($xxxx) at least to make money.
For a new directory, and for a website with daily unique IP less than 10k, it will not make you money to put adsense there.
Emily, If you work hard developing your directory and doing it correctly possibly you will start making reasonable money in three years.
emily.... here my small advise put your mind that directory is not easy like you heard from your friend... you need more invest here, not money but your time, give your own time to make a good research.... looking a good niche... and think what you want, i am the new member here just like you, but what i see here the experience directory owner give a good response, and always give support. Also they work very patient, and not rush time... just small word here : make it for your hobby and you will happy with that! my 2 cents p/s : sorry if you not understand what i write above
