PayPerClick or SEO?

I was watching various videos today regarding website traffic, and saw some very convincing arguments for each.
I'm always trying to analyze which will work better for my sites, and would be interested in hearing what you primarily use.

Are you typically using Pay-per-click (Yahoo, Adwords, MSN Adcenter, etc) or SEO (organic search traffic) to drive visitors and market your sites?

A combination of both, depending on your niche?

If you have the budget, a combination of both. SEO has the best ROI once it gets going, but it takes longer to get started. PPC can get you clicks right away, but has a lower ROI. If you do go with a combo, start with heavier budget allocated toward PPC, but then peel it back as your SEO traffic takes over.

There is no question in anyone's mind that organic ranking for a key phrases does take time. While you are pursing your efforts for organic ranking, the idea would be to balance your business needs for revenue by pursuing Sponsored Search to generate a faster response. As you get the organic ranking you can then back off on your sponsored search.

    Hope this helps.

I ALWAYS use a combo of both. Why not? You can't always rely on SEO, because Google could slap you any time. But just using PPC alone is limiting yourself. So I'd say use both!

SEO gives unique and long term traffic.
Be giving money, PPC traffic comes in. Do SEO in a wise manner, traffic comes in from search engines for a longer period :)

I use advertising and word of mouth.

SEO? Hell no. It's one of, if not, THE most overrated things out there.

First off, just about all who say that you should do seo, and it works aren't even listed in a search. Un-fucking-believable.

Second, when you optimize your site, it doesn't necessarily mean you will land high enough to get enough visitors to make it worth your while. You will get listed and get a ranking, sure, but in what order will your site be at? #10,001 in a search???

Practically all who do a search don't go past page two.

Also, search engine traffic is the poorest in terms of trying to sell a product. Most, if not practically all are site hoppers, clicking from one site to another, in additon to moochers looking for free stuff.

Everybody and their brother who knows about seo are vying for page one, so it is a matter of luck if you land there.

How many placements are on a Google page? And how many are vyign for it? Not everyone can be there.

Sorry, but that's the reality of seo.

I'm not saying to ignore it and to not optimze your site, but do it, and then move on. Advertising, a few free methods and word of mouth is what brings in the quality traffic.

SEO is good if you know the right keywords to target.

PPC is paid advertising which has worked since the 1600s

    I won't $ay what the rea$on$ are paid ad$ work, but I can $ay that paid adverti$ing work$ well when u$ed.

    Are you sure?

I think SEO is the way to go. I use SEO all the time and never ever use PPC.

No the internet was not thought of then.......

However this may shock you but businesses existed for centuries before the Internet was thought of and the first paid advertising was thought to have started in the 1600s..

The point is to build a business....... be it offline or online......:D

That simply means you are losing 35% of possible business......

Probably not the smartest move... but thats okay as I'll take whatever traffic you are not targeting.
