How can I get more people to my site

I spent 3 months (Jan - Mar) developing my portfolio site and launched it back in March. However, it is dying and I would like to know if people on DP have any ideas about how I can get it into the mainstream. I have only met a couple of these sites before (sadly this was after my development, should have put a bit more research in before putting all my effort into it). Professional on the web is one and coroflot is another and they are doing extremely well.

It has been on a couple of web 2.0 startup sites but it hasn't received massive recognition.

If anybody has any ideas about how I can improve the prospects of the site they will be much appreciated. It is now averaging about 10 uniques a day which is rubbish.

Mate of mine made his portfolio and got it on CSSMANIA.com some how. Got so much traffic his web server crashed. Got loads more visitors and orders.

 

OK, I have submitted it to CSSmania.com, any other thoughts?

 

If you need design work then signup to getafreelancer.com and start bidding on projects. The members there will want your services. Thats me out of ideas I'm afraid.

Advertise your services at different forums, such as webhostingtalk.com. That usually helps me. Just remember to advertise it in the right place, otherwise you'll get an infraction.

 

Yeah I asked one of the mods on DP whether I could make a post in the design/programming forums but have no reply. I have posted in review forums but it hasn't had a lot of traffic

 

Their is only one method works that is need , believe me i have seen many guys exchanging links wasting money here and their which dont work too long , If i am a customer i will visit only those shops where i will get quality and everything . Just keep trying to stay updated with quality content don't think about traffic and pr , believe me if you have best thing people will find you their own , This trick is know as mouth publicity which is worlds best marketing stunt , keep adding good content and try little social bookmarking .

Well for me, search engines are working great with my site now after last couple of months struggling from submissions and postings... you need to wait and do something...
