So if al qaeda was urging people to vote for him, that would make him a terrorist? Sounds like a really poor argument to base someones entire character upon.

I was fed up of the way that Ken would act as if multiculturalism was perfect and working so well for London. Depending on where you are in London, this simply isn't the case.

Modern London is segregated by class, ethnicity and religion. Some areas are filled with Asians, others with black Jamaicans, others with Somalians, others with poor white people, others with rich white people. There is no common identity. The mass influx of foreign people has completely destroyed the idea of community, because communities are not given time to settle nowadays (unlike the Jewish immigrants and the Caribbean immigrants). Over 55% of school children speak English as a second language... in the capital of England. Community and identity has been sacrificed by diversity.

I just hope who ever is the mayor of London, makes it a little bit more interesting. It must be one of the most boring capitals of Europe along Stockholm and Helsinki. :D

London boring? Where the dickens are you from mate?

Everyone else, whilst I respect your comments and differences of opinion, could we please leave the insults to one side and also stay on topic?

    This would be appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    On topic:
Boris won. He is the best man for the job according to the voters of London. No-one else's opinion matters.

Compare to cities in Germany, Holland and Spain, YES. Why do you think there are more English and Irish in Spain than England? :D

You do have a point I concur some agreement there.

Well, if nothing else, at least we should get entertainment value.

Looking forward to the gaffs of the future. :D

How is London this fine day?

There's no denying that the fundamental problem with London is the lack of community - there are still pockets of it about, but not much anymore.

It makes living in London an intensely alienating experience.

At the heart of the problem though is that wisdomtool's mates won - the mass immigration is an essential tool in the neo-liberal agenda (or the "Anglo-Saxon" system as they call on the continent).

We have draconian restrictions on the right to organise at work, coupled with a seemingly endless supply of foreign labour.

Thatcher said that there was no such thing as society, just families and individuals - and she did all she could to make that a reality. Actually, she achieved that quite well.

Christ, I grew up with the Tories under Thatcher in power - they were such depressingly hard years. Unless, of course, you were rich, as they were the principle benefactors of those years.

Sorry. It was aimed at CB, who I now learn is in Northumberland, not London.

Spain, Belfast - so how is Valencia? :D

I just realised that the thread starter is calling Boris a "Baffoon" instead of a "Buffoon". Oh, the irony!

I haven't read the entire thread . I've only read the first page as it's late. I have to say though I agree with sweetsara. I'm really disappointed that Ken Livingston didn't win or rather the fact that Boris won.

Boris is not a details person. When he was talking about routemasters he had no idea of costs, Ken really has done so much for London and has a deep passion for improvement both culturally and as a whole. I just don't see Boris improving London and making tough decisions for the better of the people. All I really heard from Boris was the fact he's going to put 70 PSCO's on the buses. Woo...

Actually, this is incorrect, since the Queen always follows the Lord Mayor into The City on ceremonial ocassions.

The City as you know, is a separate entity to the rest of London and is a sovereign state in it's own right, unto itself and is not considered officially a part of England as such.

The same applies to Vatican City and also the District of Colombia in Washington. They are separate sovereign states.

    Exactly.

Btw, wasn't Boris born in New York?

    I'm sure he was.

Now we have a bloomin' American running the show in London.
