Say if I bought a server with out cPanel. Using FireFTP program with FireFox (add-on) I would still be able to host my sites?

Also with out cPanel, is there some sort of other simple panel you get for free? Also with out cPanel do I still get to manage domains, email, databases?

So I could install a free one?

Also if I had a managed dedicated server, would I have to do anything techinical?

Also with a dedicated can I sell shared hosting/VPS?

yes you can install a free one.
Managed means that someone monitors your server and makes sure it doesn't go down. They also will do some minor work like installing software and playing with settings.

You can sell shared hosting quite easily. As for VPS, you will need some kind of VPS software that would split your server into partitions so that each person would get their own root access to a piece of the server.

    You know all dedicated servers.

When you get them they come with nothing basically. I have to install PHP, phpMyAdmin, mySQL, and all of these.

    Is that how it works?

Even with a managed server you will sill have to do technical aspects to keep your server optimized.. With your budget you will not find any company that will monitor and maintain your server completely..

Most servers come with a basic management where they will install some software and replace hard ware failures. But if you want a fully monitored and sever management you will need to up your budget. Even though our servers come with server management we still pay an out side source to monitor and maintain the server.. And we still have technical aspects that we must do as well.

cPanel itself costs $25-$30/month from datacenter. So, you are looking for a managed dedicated server at $20-$25/month. Mission Impossible IV? :) A good management service will cost more than that, not counting to hardware. If you don't care how to spend your money and low uptime is still good for you, you can choose any provider gives you managed server at that price. Otherwise, think again!

My budget for a server with no cPanel is $50. Not $25.

We understand you budget but expect a very very low end server with no management, no cpanel, I would personally not be able to recommend a server at that price.

I went to that site and looked.
First how big is your forums and blogs as those are designed for test servers, light web sites and dns servers..as they have small processors and low ram. How many visitors do you normally get.. and how big are your data bases.. Also if you were to go with something like that I would recommend at least to upgrade to 1gb of ram (10.00/month more) And I did not see that they were managed so I am going to assume that are unmanaged..(i did not look very closely)

Where do you have your sites hosted now?

Most server company's with the basic management will install those on request.

The sites I will be hosting are new. I will be starting them from scratch. This is why I am looking for a dedicated server.

Maybe someone could reccomend what I should be looking for in a server. Then I could look into it better?
