Hi, I was wondering if you guys could help me.

    This is my website: http://hedgeagainstspeculation.com

and it looks like I`ve been losing a lot of unique visitors in the past month. I still have been updating my website regularly with new articles. And the articles are also longer than before but I went from getting 188 unique visitors a day to under 90...

What am I doing wrong...please help me!

Well, for starters, you should know that all sites will lose visitors. That's common. Get use to it. But you lost what, 50%? That's something else.

The subject of your blog is not my cup of tea, but I did notice a few things that may be the problem...

Your text is way too small.. You have to keep in mind that many of your visitors are skim readers, they may be tired from visiting other sites, they may have to squint to see your text...

I wear reading glasses, and it is still too small for any extended kind of reading.

Don't make your readers have to try to read something. If they have to lean into their monitor, even for a second, the text is too small. The text should jump right out at them, without being overpowering.

Try Georgia 12 font. It has a different style to it, and it is easily readible.

You have archive links off to the right, but if the stuff on your homepage isn't that great, why should I click on your archives???

Perhaps put in a sample from your best submissions from each month? You certainly have the room for it.

And when you do run out of room as time goes on, have each link open a new window when they hover their mouse over it.

You should now do this with your Blogroll. For example, when the hover over Alpha Trends, a window pops open with a little bit of info about it.

This will increase your chances in getting them to click on it to go there.

Like I said before, this subject isn't up my alley, but I did notice that in some of your submissions you are JUST talking about it, and that's it.

When writing your blog, you should think to yourself: What can my readers get out of this?

Are you givng plenty of free advice? Are you sharing stories and news from other sources?

I don't know, maybe your visitors are getting something out of it.

Maybe your overall tone and info is too boring???

The text is too close to the left side of the monitor. There is no breathing room, sort of speak. It just doesn't look good.

If you did this in a table, put in "padding."

Also, is it Firefox, Opera and Safari friendly???

And, finally, you should think about putting in a rating system for each submission. Like rating a book, they have an option of 1 to 4 stars. Then have it displayed how many stars that particular one got. Like Amazon.com has for their books.

Undeneath it put a small box for them to type in why they like or dislike it.

Encourage your readers to help you make your site better by coming right out and asking them.

Was your traffic before coming as a result of posting your link on sites where a lot of the visitors are regular users?

Or was it search engines and the like?

I get a lot from search engines - probably most.

But a little bit came from posting my web pages of interest on a few forums. On some of the forums, I could tell by the "views" listed, that in a few weeks, the number of "views" quit increasing, indicating that the bulk of the visitors to the site (the unregistered users) don't go very deep into the forum site, and must be skimming the most recent posts.

Even if I quit getting traffic due to that, I still found it to be a surprising fact.

It showed that many sections of forums just get skimmed on the surface.

And it showed that the regular registered "logged in" users did not revisit a lot of sections as much as I would have anticipated.

Well......loosing your visitors is really bad even if your updating your site wth some fresh articles.....I think the reason is that you are missing something or not fulfill expectations of your visitors.......so analyse your site in early stage when you have lots of visitors and present sites status and then you can cometo know the reason perhaps.......

Use the popular posts plugin and highlight keywords and important phrases splitting your content, do proper tagging using social bookmarking sites, i think it will help you to get back the visitors or retain them.

Everyday lots of websites are launching on the web. So, I think when people found any new website with good quality information, they sure run to that. It's not any serious thing. Just find out on Google, how many article websites have. Keep update your contents regularly and one day they must come to your site again.
