    Follow this...

    1. Go to your admin
    2. click on options
    3. click on permalink
    4. Choose the "custom" and write the following code: /%category%/%postname%.html

and when you click on update you will some codes below that page in a box that you need to place in .htaccess file if you dont have one kindly create a blank notepad file and save the code which is given in the box and save it as ".htaccess" and place in the root folder of your blog.

    Hope this helps...

Good to see people actually trying to change the URL structure for SEO purpose.
It is actually called the permalink structure, which you can change by going into your permalinks options page -
Check this post for more details.

Here are a few more basic steps for new wordpress blog.

Oh, late in answering! Good info from infogle :)

I would actually try to even remove the %category% out of the permalink that way you increase the % of keywords in URL.

I'm not so sure that's a good idea, Trapped. Especially from an information architecture and usability perspective. Not only can it screw up a Web site's structuring system (for example, if you have a group of services that you offer on your Web site, put them under a section called services), but it can also confuse people who often use the URL in the address bar to get a sense of where they are on a Web site (even if a breadcrumb menu is present - if you don't believe this, I just happen to be one of those people).

Now, if you're talking about the category BASE itself, which often gets added to the in-page links (such as "Filed under...") then I'd use the Category Base Killer plugin (or edit line #439 of the wp-includes/rewrite.php file in WordPress 2.5.1) to ensure that the category base is removed while retaining the category structure.

/%category%/%postname%.html is the best thing ever seen. I have 3k+/day pure google traffic on one of my anime blogs.

This time have setuped one more forum, lets s8 one or two weeks for results.

SEO URL is a must this days....
