    Hi friends,
i bought a hostmonster account of disk space 600 GB. but when i upload any file , on the file uploading page there is a message that Maximum File Size allowed for upload: 159 GB . i have at most 1 Gb already uploaded in this host. in that case i should be able to upload 599 GB, then why it is showing that only 159GB can be uploaded? pls explain if u know.

File Size is different from total disk space. One Size refers to one file, total disk space refers to the total size of all the files.

Im not making any accusations, but most hosts that offer huge amount of disk space usage, such as 600GB are usually overselling, which means you are not guaranteed that amount of disk space.

Seems like the case here, i myself would never choose a shared/reseller/vps host that offered 600GB space as they would most likely be overselling, if you require a large amount of diskspace i would go dedicated.

Well they promise their clients that, so hopefully some clients have large enough files to store, it would be fun to see their reaction when a few of these clients used up their quota of 600 GB or rather could not use up their quota of 600 GB.

Then I think a dedicated server is needed. You will probably get suspended soon for using too much diskspace.

If he uses 600 GB which is what was promised I don't see how he is going to be suspended. But you are right in saying that a dedicated server is needed. But since he is already in the 600 GB plan, lets see how much he can push through.

Definatley, No way are they going to let you use the actual space, check their policies/aup/tos, they have everything that covers them. I wouldnt even go as far as saying they would let you use 20gb, around 15gb and they'll ask you to upgrade to a dedicated or something. If they actually yet customers use the full amount of space then they would need a dedicated server for every 2 customers they have, they must have thousands. Yet im sure they cram about 500 on each of their servers ;)

if you require 600GB only for your site then i suggest you go for a dedicated server. also, filesize is different from disk size. file size = 1 file only. may i know what file you're trying to upload? it's quite huge for a shared hosting environment...

    Hey,

The trick is that most people only use a few mb or max 1gb on all their websites in total! But all humans are greedy, and they want as much as possible for as little as possible!

Therefor people order 600gb hdd plans and 5tb bandwidth plans when they know that they will only use 10mb... But, you always want as much as possible... (ALWAYS)

But the trick behind the scene is that most people use only a few mb for their websites! So that if 50 people actually use 600gb, then it doesn't matter! Because all the other "I have 600gb HDD but use 10mb only" covers what you use!

And yes, almost all of these companies have restricitions on files, file endings, size limits etc and they will always find a way to shut you down if your not clever and go around their TOS giving them no reason to suspend you!

But hey, why do you think almost all TOSs have a "We have the right to change the TOS whenever, wereever without any notice" ;)
