I'm looking at getting a VPS for my new site, I've been using shared for my other projects so I'm not too familiar with which companies are good and which aren't, so can anyone recommend something for me? Thanks.

Get a cPanel VPS, jump over to WebHostingTalk and find something there. I can recommend VPSLink.com and SLHost.com have used both in the past.

I'm really not familiar with VPS at all, what's the difference? Right now I'm looking at splitting a $60/month with a friend but the cheaper the better.

If you are not ready to manage your own VPS, I would suggest that you get a reseller hosting. The reason is that VPS you need to manage yourself, if you do not wish to manage, then you have to talk to the provider and see if they provide any managed services.

Means you need to take care of software updates, problem that arise from the servers. A VPS is just like a dedicated servers, you either need to take care of everything yourself or get someone to manage it for you :)

I used Futurehosting http://www.futurehosting.biz and I enjoyed the managed service provided for their VPS and they go at a very good price.

I'm looking as well. Currently I am using Hostgator shared hosting but today they pissed me off. They suspended my account because I have some heavy intensive sites and it caused the CPU on the server to go above 50%. Now I understand that this could cause an issue for other users but they did not even tell me there was a problem until after the suspended my account (I got an email).

Since they don't offer VPS Hosting I need to find another provider.
