yeah link baiting is a new trend to build backlinks... the only thing is that the amount of links totally depends on others and not the amount of work you put it... unlike most of the traditional link building techniques... I think its great
The main problem of bulk directory submission is that it always use the same anchor everywhere and that can trigger Google bombing filter.
In link baiting its happen naturally and in some post of matt cutts blog(www.mattcutts.com/blog/) had given green signal to link bait. The reason is people link back to your site is, they like your site content. and that is what google algorithm is based on. Its not at all related with directory submission.
I was successful in doing a linkbait a couple of time. And the results are simply amazing. But you will need luck and some great ideas

He sometimes blog about things. And most important he address google in major public seminars. I hope this will clear your major doubts about linkbait. cheers
Yes zexy, its a combination of luck and brain but if you take into practice at regular intervals you will archive success quite often.
How is that black hat SEO? Creating something that people want to link to? Thats what every website should be doing. Is creating stuff that people want to link to.
That's an interesting collection of articles on link-baiting you've got there, Robert! Cheers! Did you become better and more successful in link-baiting after a few attempts? I don't fully agree on that. I think that the amount of work you put in your website is very important and should not be underestimated. Who would create a link to your website if the content is not appealing? Yeah, I know...those webmasters who still think that submitting poorly written articles to Digg and the like is a guarantee to make it to the front page and drive tons of traffic to their website. Dream on! Directory submission has got nothing to do with link-baiting! Aren't webmasters (mostly) able to control the anchor text when they submit their website or article to a directory?
