Black Hat SEO - Profiles & Now Blogger Comments

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by Zibblu, May 2, 2008.

For the past couple of months I've been seeing this same guy absolutely dominating the Google results for one of my biggest paying keywords by creating profiles on big sites which are basically mini-sales pages. He creates these profiles and then sends them loads of spammy free for all type links. I guess this is fooling Google because of the fact that they are on big trusted domains.

Now today I've noticed this guy has a new trick up his sleeve. He posts comments on blogger and then links to that comment on blogger - not to the post itself but the comment. This means that the main url is actually blogger.com which it looks like Google gives more value to than blogspot.com --- This blogger.com comment is now #1 for my main keyword. I don't want to give out my main keyword as you can see I'm already having enough problems but I decided to check another similar keyword "viagra" to see if anything similar was going on and sure enough I see the same blogger comment trick.

    Right now this https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5577098518194103540&postID=8162644759575121838

Is the 5th result for Viagra.... this is a much more competitive keyword than mine is. So um... I'm just shaking my head in disbelief at how this guy is getting away with this insanity. I'd like to say oh Google will eventually catch up and he won't be able to get away with it anymore but on my main keyword he's got like 15 of the top 20 spots right now with this sort of stuff on tons of different domains.

Part of me is hoping that you guys will take this info and run with it and swamp the internet with this absolute nonsense until Google finally has to do something about it. It's driving me crazy. My good quality sites cant get ranked but this BS can. ARGH. So no, I don't want to know how to do this, I want to know what can be done about it? How can I get Google to kick all of these BS results out of the search results?

So your advice is what? Join him? I'm about to the point where I'm considering it. Playing by the rules doesn't seem to work.

He's piggy backing on authoritative domains, if you paste the Blogger comment URL in Google you'll see he's got over 1,200 backlinks to it mainly from comment spam. Google gives trust to the Blogger comment page partially because of the primary domains authority but also because the links on it are Nofollow so the page is seen as a lower risk of spam.

This way he is not linking to his domain with spam links, but rather traffic harvesting with authoritative landing pages. If you look deeper he's doing this with dozens of keywords (soma, tramadol, levitra, ultram etc) and driving the traffic straight to the related page on his site.. in this case /viagra

His domain is actually banned from Google, but as you can see that's not stopping him from making a killing.

A quick look at his backlink profile for the Viagra Blogger page, the sites he's spammed for that keyword he's also done for every product the site is selling.

I just Googled those terms, and sure enough he's on the first page for some.. And will no doubt be there for the others very soon also.

Are you using Yahoo site explorer to check the backlinks?

That's an impressive ranking, especially for a page with very little content.

Yes 6 days from page creation to page #1 on Google for Viagra, Buy Viagra and many others.

He's got many more pages in the works too, so by the time Google thinks about killing it there will be more to take it's place.

Shows how easy it is to fool Google doesn't it.

I'm not jealous, I'm frustrated that BS like this works because I don't want to play this game. It's most frustrating because I've had sites punished and I can't even figure out why. You know it's the fact that Google is going around "punishing" people for no apparent reason but then they are letting stuff like this happen. I mean there are keywords where their whole first page is filled with absolute junk. MSN & Yahoo are getting fooled by it a bit too, but not as bad as Google.

They will have to do something about this trick because as well as it works - others will be joining this guy. Then what will the results be? Nothing but blogger comments & forum profiles?

Zibblu this trick is nothing new, (a WH example is "bummarketing") and not many will join him because most webmasters don't and never will have the necessary knowledge, skills, or resources as this guy. If you don't want to play the game then give up on online/seo/internet business. The online/seo/internet business world is a dog-eat-dog world just as the offline business world is. If you had a competitive attitude instead of whinning on a forum you would be knocking up your SEO skills to the next level. If he don't beat you another BH or WH SEO will just take his place.
    No offense meant.

He's posting spammed links to a comment page that is hosted on blogger.com. That blogger comment is ranking for highly competitive keywords related to viagra. The comment itself links to an online pharmacy. It's called parasite hosting when you piggyback off another domain's authority.

Spammers love blogger.com. Mainly because it works but I'm sure the irony of gaining top ranks on Google through Blogger isn't lost on them either.

I see we have some folks here defending this biz and saying "oh you're just whining." Whatever, that's not the point. The point is GOOGLE is failing at doing their job when stuff like this is allowed to happen. The annoying thing is that they go after people for BS reasons that are often completely unclear. I've had 3 urls (out of about 50 that I own) de-listed entirely and I have no real idea why. Meanwhile right now the Google results for some of my (formerly) profitable keywords are just filled with garbage. That looks bad upon them in the long run. They need to tighten up ship. There's no reason that a blogger comment should ever be the top result for anything unless maybe it's some insanely long tail type biz. First page for a term as competitive as Viagra? That's just stupid. Google is failing as a search engine. I've been saying this for awhile now, their results are getting worse and worse especially for more "adult" type terms. I realize that it must be incredibly hard to filter out all of the crap - but I just think their filters are all wrong. They are filtering some things for no good reason but allowing lots of garbage through.

As far as what he's doing being that difficult. I don't really believe that it is. He does obviously have some sort of software that allows him to spam a lot of links but other than that, everything else he's doing is quite simple. I'm sure I could get spam software and do the same thing he's doing. Yah great. More garbage on the internet. OK fine, you've convinced me. I'll start doing this tomorrow. I'll report back in a couple of weeks. I figure this guy is making at least $1000 a day with this crap. Probably much more.

Well said and i couldn't agree more, Rep.

Google is "supposed" to be supplying the most relevant search results for a query and blog comment spam is hardly relevant. It offers nothing to the searcher besides some shady pharmacy link to a de-indexed domain selling the stuff.

I've had a legitimate domain wiped off the map and go from 15k uniques per day and $450 per day in revenue to 200 uniques and $1 on a good day in the blink of an eye. Here it is 3 months later and nobody has a clue why it happened, PR N/A splogs scrape my content and promptly outrank me for it despite it coming from my PR6 subpages. If you think i just don't know what i'm doing i've managed to rank #3 for the term "SEO" on Google.com so i at least know something.

The results in many verticals are trash, and quality sites are going south only to be replaced by comment spam.

If i was the paranoid type, i'd be thinking this is a ruse to get honest webmasters spending their dollars on Adwords to sustain a normal traffic stream and web presence.
