Hey all - Last month I made a post on my freelance writing income of $7,500 in March. In April, things seemed to slow down quite a bit. Is anybody else experiencing a slowdown in internet projects? I know this can be common during the spring months, and wanted to see how you guys are coming along. This month I earned just around $5,800. You can check out the full stats at http://www.chrisblogging.com/freelance-writing-income-april-2008/ Obviously this is nothing to be too concerned about, but something to ponder for a bit!
Thanks guys - Hopefully the slowdown is the same as every year and has nothing to do with the economy, etc.
Freelancing income is going down. Not sure but, the problem I guess is that nowadays, not many people do article marketing to promote their sites. I work at two freelancing sites, and I see a decrease in the number of copywriting projects there.
Angilina - While some projects may be on the decline, this more than likely does not hold true for the entire industry. After all, blogs and other like sites will always need content to thrive...
I an't understand how you can make that much money with writing Anyway internet is not constant i see som slownines in freelance projects olso ...
At this time of the year, things get slow down to some extent. Increase in number of freelance writers working at cheap rates can also be a factor.
April was a lousy month for me, but not because of some overall trend down... because of three or four clients postponing rather large projects. It happens. I fully expect May to be a great month - possibly even my best writing-wise. My blog income is already up just from bringing back my most popular one, so that's going to make things all that much better. Overall, this entire year has been filled with fantastic growth for my freelance writing (and for several others I know). As for April, just blame it on the sunshine... such a distracting little devil. j/k
Congratulation my friend.. I added your blog on my bookmarks, I found another topic about your blog here in DP. I liked the article that talk about the project in GAF that the owner offer $2 per hour. I open the link, and guess what : There are 94 bids, the project is expired and the owner didn't choose any one.... Regards.
jhmattern - looks we are in the same boat, sort of. I am expecting a great May as well. Let's hope things pan out that way! houssem-hj - thanks for the bookmark! Let me know if you have any questions...
I also saw a slow down in April but May is already full of projects. I always say that when you freelance it is feast or famon and hardly anything in between. Great income though, you don't have anything to worry about!
Rachel - May is definitely shaping up to be a good month. That's the freelance game for you; up and down all the time!
Chris, I must be a fangirl for just a sec and say that I lurve your blog Okay, now that that little embarassing bit is out of the way... I was just reading in The Well Fed Writer (finally got around to checking it out of the library) that spring and summer usually see a bit of a dip in productivity because that's when most people tend to go on vacation. I don't know if that helps you, but it might help you feel better!
snarke - thanks for following my blog so closely; I appreciate it. I agree with what you said. Summertime can definitely bring a slowdown. After all, we all can't sit at the computer when the weather is so nice, right?
It is obvious that as always, some freelancers were up last month and others were down. Hopefully we'll all have a great May!
I definitely noticed a bit of a slowdown last month, particularly at places like Rentacoder and GetaFreelancer. Not nearly as many projects posted, and a lot of them paid measly rates. I don't know if it's because of the economic downturn or just a one-month-trend. And I also have to compliment you on your blog. It's a definite daily read for me, and to know someone has made it like you have is very encouraging to me and other freelance writers, I'm sure.
