As an affiliate marketer, you can benefit from this phenomenon as well.

    From Forum Post to Riches

    1. This does require a good idea.. creativity.. and stealth, but I've seen it performed over and over again; I just saw an example today - actually in the end this particular forum post got deleted, but the marketer already had enough information to make it into something greater...
    2. It's a winning strategy if done right in the environment you are in. And yes.. I have tapped into this beauty myself in different ways.
    3. First you need a hungry market.. you need to already have an outlet to promote to. Whether thats a list you've built, PPC traffic you get, other search engine traffic you get.. or a community that allows you to promote to them..
    4. This needs to be on topic and relevant to the community you are in..
    5. ..you are basically going to test the waters. And you'll see others doing this. Don't always think forum posts are innocent; they are often cleverly disguised research tools or even pre-sell tools.
    6. Have an idea or have something you have a good idea this market hungers for... if it's IM related you maybe found a new way of making money (kind of like Steve did..)... OR.. it's doesn't even have to be new. You made money and people want to know exactly what method you used to do that..
    7. If it's a gardening site.. maybe a lot of people have a problem growing a particular plant. But you don't! Turn it into a thread first to see if these people might be interested in your formula for growing this difficult plant.
    8. Just post your success story.. your experience. It doesn't have to be a long post. But it should get their attention. Give them information they need or will excite the community.
    9. DO NOT make it sales pitch! Use stealth.. the lowest level of soft-sell. An innocent, real post about something. There must be no perception that you are going to sell anything.. Thats why the guy I mentioned above was deleted I would suspect.
    10. In the case I saw today, the problem turned out that the person in the thread originally said he was giving back to the community and providing this valuable info for free.. and then turned it into a product before the thread went away; people aren't dumb.
    11. Use a catchy headline.
    12. Now here's where the same thing applies to every area of marketing. You are testing! If the thread flops and slips into the pages of posts never to be seen again, then move on...
    13. BUT.. if it lights up and turns on fire, you might very well have something!
    14. And, keep active in it because all the people posting will be asking questions that YOU can turn into a report or eBook.
    15. Once you've gathered this data.. once you know your market goes nuts over it, then turn it into something and turn to the market that is ready for it; announce the release and away you go.
    16. If you learn to do things like this, you'll save yourself A LOT of time on projects that are destined to go no where.
    17. And you can utilize this same principle watching the forum in general.. what threads are on fire? Which are hot?
    18. Can you apply that to your market? Do you have experience in these areas that answer peoples questions and solve their problems?
    19. This isn't new btw... marketers have been doing this since the dawn of online communities.
    20. There are very popular forums out there and top marketers watching the threads, subject lines and post counts.. looking for that next product that will be hot, hot, hot!
    21. Be alert and pick up on hot topics.. see where they lead.
    22. IN FACT, watch the marketer that posts something like this. If you watch them long enough, you might be able to tap into the profit wave they create.
    23. Example: Man posts comment on how they lost 100 pounds in 30 days adding only one thing to their diet (adding? Yes adding!)
    24. Man turns around and writes an eBook about it...
    25. Man's eBook does very well.
    26. Man opens affiliate program...
    27. The eBook is on fire! People all over the net are searching on Google for it..

AND there you are with a review on the right column.. those little ads people are clicking on.

It can be applied to any market.

Observe.. get on people's lists.. subscribe to their blog feeds.. know what's happening in your market and catch the trends and hot conversations and tap into more affiliate dollars.

Then it's important to give credit to the people you get information from. You posted this in the first person - ie you led us to believe you had actually written it. Look at these examples from the text

    * I've seen it performed over and over again
    * I just saw an example today
    * Thats why the guy I mentioned above

but the best of all was probably

as indeed this thread probably is. Did you hope we'd all think you were some kind of guru when we read your post? Did you think it would establish you as a leader. Sorry, pal, it's exposed you as a fraud.

Sarah, you smart l'il cookie you.. ;)

rock on woman... I like it.

To the OP, good info or not, you would have gathered more respect saying, hey look at this by xxxx...it's some great info

But instead you decided to try to rip if off as your own..VERY shady practice. In the affiliate marketing world we have enough trouble with plagiarism..you are the problem. Be a part of it or be the solution
