Hi everyone, i would like some advice on my first website that i have built using css and HTML. my site is www.mytvtalk.com i would apreciate all the advice i can get. thanks in advance
It appeared to be okay looking with the layout and everything from what I saw. But the shop, seems to not be lining up correctly. It is down at the bottom of the page instead of being at the top where all the other content lays out.
Every looks fragin fine...and it validates okay (by the way, you should head over to w3.org and get one of those nifty validation logos The only thing I would say is...needs a bit of sprucing up. What I mean is, under reviews and news you only have headlines, and they DON'T look like links to larger stories. What I would do is make your headlines H2 with a small description of the story (first paragraph?) with "...read more" to draw people into enjoying your site. And lastly, I don't see any contact, sitemap, or terms of service...seems stupid, and I neglected them for a long time...but it's a small thing that *can* make a big difference.
Agreed --------------------------- The only thing that stood out to me was the copyright & web design by text. I think you should center those two, it would flow better with the site. Just my 2 cents.
thanks everyone for your advice this forum is super helpfull, il make the changes now. i noticed the shop wasnt displaying correctly in internet explorer earlier but it seams fine in firefox and opera any ideas? thanks
thanks for the advice i didnt realise it just looks like headings and not links thanks that going to help me out alot. as for the site maps and terms of service what would i put on those pages im not really sure about them, isnt a site map a list of pages on your site? thanks in advance
hmmm... if this was your first try, good job! it looks good! this was my first site www.eldanetworks.com and it was from a template! lol But yeah some stuff you should look into or check out: - make sure its browser friendly currently, i viewed your site in firefox so it looks great. but sometimes when using css it gets interpreted differentltly so look into that - avoid plack backgrounds you did a good job with using the black background, but it should be avoided, it looks kinda tacky, but you were able to play it off - footer maybe is should be a bit brighter, and you should add some links down there just like the links you have on the side, just in text. this is for the people who unfourtunatly may have images disabled in this day and age. - store loving it. good job with that - forum maybe you should prob incorporate the identity of your homepage into it. maybe not just yet since your starting out but maybe when you get a lil experienced. Yeah. pretty cool site.
thanks for the advice guys, by the blue rounds you are talking about the background navigation? if so what would you reccomend? thanks once again
hi guys ive updated my website taking the things you have mentioned into account, except for the blue rounds as im still working on a design also havent added a contact page yet as still in progress. ive had my main pages w3 validated please let me know what you think now. thanks for your help
any futher advice? also does any on eknow a way hoe to get more members to my forums? ive been advertising my site but have only got like 28 members. thanks
The layout looks good aside from one thing I found. In the shop the theme is red and the sidebars are still blue. I believe it would look better playing with the colors a little bit more but other then that, good job@!
thanks, all the help is greatly appreciated, site looks a million times better already from the adive i have recieved on here. thanks guys any more comments would be appreciated.
can some one help me out, if i view the shop page on opera or fire fox it aligns the way i want it to but in internet explorer the shop is at the bottom of the page and not where i want it at all. thanks
