I recently bought a domain on here that had PR5. I checked using the PR checker to make sure it was genuine - it was. However today I have checked and it's grey bar Does this mean it will not come back? Thanks!

Buying dropped domains with PR is one of the biggest scams out there. Most dropped domains will lose most if not all of their PR because the existing links are no longer relevant and will fade away or the persson selling them has one or two high PR links pointing to it and they remove those after sale or they were faking the PR with a redirection or they achieved the high PR with spam or black hat SEO techniques and gooogle has caught on. good luck
Maybe some of the backlinks has been removed after you bought that sight. But you can get a high pr also in your own work.

Agree with John, still check your sitemap, and internal linking. When a visitor click on home from internal webpage the homepage should be open as yourdomain.com not as yourdomain.com/index.html
I think you have selected wrong way to promote your website which is a violation from the view of their term and condition that's why you're pr came down but it doesn't means that it won't come back again. so try to use good channels to bring PR back! Enjoy the google features!
that wont do any good. that PR is gone. if google didn't count the backlinks on April 30 update, then they wont count the backlinks on the next update either
