Has the "domainer" and site sales business gone just silly?

I have been a "domainer" part time for way too long now!!! Since the mid 90's and I have bought and sold hundreds of domain names.

I used to pick up a domain I didn't care so much about page rank and traffic. I would make my own little parking page, submit to search engines and after generating some traffic and interest I would always find a decent buyer. Now I am buying more domain names, names that I know are good and I can't give them away. I just sold some of my "junk" domains for $1.... I know they are all worth more, decent traffic short brandable names, but for whatever reason they go low. Thats fine, I suppose thats business.

I decide to go checkout ebay for a bit, the worst domains you can think of going for $15-$30... now I am thoroughly confused. People listing ihaveabaddomainname.com for $8000, they will probably get it.

These days people buy domains only for pagerank, which just doesn't work unless you can maintain it. How is it that we have so many SEO businesses operating? I always thought that if you want decent traffic you should just stick to the basics... clean design, clean code and good content, apparently I was wrong I need to pay people to optimize my site so Google will find it faster.

I am getting very afraid of where the business is going.

You can try to source out for 5 letters domain name that are being deregistered everyday.

These are still popular without even having traffic to it.

Other than that, I guess you have to use your profit now to pick up a new skill for the future :D

    Maybe reality is funny? :D

For me, my strategy is to start something and get good at it. Then find one other sideline as insurance.
