Most religions believe in a karma system. 'Do good things and good things will happen to you'... this obviously is not the case.
this question seems to popup now and again, and the most obvious answer to me is this: God gives us freedom. We make bad choices. We get bad consequences. If you're pregnant and eat mcdonalds, drink alcohol, and have poor health.. how is it god's fault that your daughter gets cancer?
this is a question of faith. if you belive then not knowing the answer does not mean there is none. if you have to ask then you are questioning your faith
Is god willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then is he malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him god?
i will answer you in a small story but my english sux so try to under stand in the past times there was a guy who had a farm and had more than 1000 horse some day all the horses ran away the people thought he will be so sad so they go to him to chear him up he asked them the man : how did you know that the escape of the horses is a bad thing ? people : com on man you have lost a fortune in the next day a disease came to the man region and kill all the animals of his neighbours then in the next weak his horses came back the people went back to him to congratulate him that his horses escaped from death by the diseas the man asked them how do you that the return of the horses is good thing ? the people didnot find answer in the next day his son went to feed the horses but he broke his leg the people came back to the man to chear him up the man asked them how did they knew that it is a bad thing that his son have broke his leg they didnot found an answer my point of view that you donot know waether the girl have cancer or not is a bad thing may be if she havenot a cancer she woill have something worest like as an example lose her eyes and become blind or lose her leg second thing how do you know that hitler enjoy his life ? he might be suffering all of his life and wish to die and who told you that death is a bad thing ? have you tried it ? so your question is good but try to think more and more
1. Dying from cancer is worse than losing a leg 2. Hitler probably enjoyed his life more than the average person, he could do whatever he wanted, most people can't 3. When Hitler had enough, he could just kill himself (which he did), he was actually given the choice of when, and how to do it, the little girl hasn't got that freedom 4. I fail to see how anything good can come out of a little girl dying of cancer 5. If it's a 'test' - who is it supposed to be testing?
I have to say if God exist, he is pissed at you for starting this thread. If it starts to thunder at your house, run for cover because he is after you. Ok in reality, if you read many of the religious text, they explain away his failure to help by either claiming it was a test or that he allows free will. Either way does not fly with me. Truth is, bad people do bad things and good people die. Nothing you can do to stop it. Live each day the best you can and be the best person you can be. Religion is all about faith and if it helps you sleep at night, more power to you. You will never find any logic in the major religions.
True. In fact logic and faith are two opposite things. What I want to ask is why would someone think that the world had to be perfect in order for there to be a God? The only way for a devine being to make everyone safe would be to remove free will and make slaves of everyone. Is that what anyone wants?
The problem arises because of the concept of supreme, all controlling, all powerful god with no opposition. In a tribal polytheistic religion, the answer would be simple. Disease gods take the children's lives. The gods of tyranny and evil protected hitler. That makes a lot of sense to me.
