Info had always been the target of being used as a loss leader. I guess they found that it isn't really worth it to keep having it as a loss leader and decided to dump it once and for all. I remember sometime back when everyone can register dot info for free. This basically lower down the expectations of the prices of info. I would think that it is a wrong marketing move.

In a few months the .info will not be underevaluated anymore and good keyword domains will value more....

Indeed, now the option is available again. But earlier this morning, I checked on GoDaddy and 4-5 resellers and none of them had info domains for sale anymore.

GoDaddy is still selling it and I don't see any reasons why they should stop selling it. Perhaps it is just a glitch.

.info domains may perhaps be a sweet den for spammers but I do see a lot of good .info sites out there. Maybe they just don't get as much coverage and credibility as sites with .com domains.

I've got a .info site with good info on it (and no Google or other contextual ads either). Don't judge a website by it's domain name TLD.

.info is extremely useful. Not only for its cheap price but for the name you are able to get with them. Such as a great domain name with .info instead of a shitty .com that noone can pronounce.

Agreed with alonski, .info extension is very useful for a quick cheap site you may be putting together or a very informative site, it gives people the cheaper option.

Ok do not yell at me here. I am really not being sarcastic.

    Hello Logic here.
I am day in and day out reading about how great .info domain names are because the cost less. I do understand the cost factor. What I do not understand is that time is the same as money to me. In fact one might have more of one then the other.
If I was going to develop a domain name as a web site and going to be adding a lot of graphic design labor and software features, e-commerce promotion and optimization, etc.
I would spend additional money to buy the cheapest part of the equation the .com domain name.
This is just our approach, not saying anything bad about all other extensions.

    Help me Learn
Please share with me a site that is publicly known so I can understand a .info ending that is say like and Amazon in size, even a Toys r Us in size would be fine.
I really would buy .info's if I could be made confident in them being used in a major online US domestic operation.

Thank you for letting me share what I am thinking and hope you can guide me.

    Logic...

I think one thing is alot of good .com names are gone.Im sure if i owned a .com name that a fortune 500 company wanted, they would buy it from me.Like,if i owned amazon.com BEFORE they did,do you think they would name amazon.info or try and purchase domain?

I use .info domains to list single page information sites that i may list over several months rather than using sub domains, which are harder for people to understand. The cheapness of these domains is ideal for this purpose.

This is the purpose of .info domains (.info = .information).

Thing I don't like about .info is the word ".info" it looks cheesy.
So if you want to build your site with cheezy domain tld, go ahead. But still looks lame

I chose to use .info's primarily for personal use and testing, as there is less of an investment required to obtain some other TLD's. I think the marketing gimmick when they first came out of registering all you wanted for free kind of killed a lot of the potential for the domain, and devalued it.

At the same time I do not believe godaddy is going to stop selling .info's. It may have been a glitch. Such a move makes no business sense for them, the more you can sell, the more market share you have, the more money you make. If other sites can offer the domain, and will continue to sell .info even IF godaddy did stop, it would only give more reason for people to go elsewhere.

Thus; it's not going to happen =(.

I have a couple of parked .info's that get good traffic

I also use them for mini information sites that match the keywords in the domain name and link them to my .coms in a matching niche.

I have invested in a few simply because the keywords are fantastic and .com is not available.

I would not use a .info to make a branded a site, or a site that relied on type ins or off line advertising but I find the search engines give me a better result for a keyword rich .info rather than a non keyword .com

They are cheap to invest in and play with and you can always drop them if they don't work out for you without losing a fortune

Ordinary people don't know that these TLDs exist. All they know are COMs, NETs, and ORGs. What the hell, I don't care, I'm a big internet[dot]bs fan!
