I found a tutorial (in spanish) on how to improve your perfomances when using a AMD Athlon X2 processor (any) on Windows XP (not applicable to x64 XP or Windows Vista). So here I'm translating it for you. Tested on: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ This works for any AMD X2 processor. I really reccomend you to do this, it really works!! Let's start: 1. Install the AMD Classic drivers: Download here 2. REBOOT 3. Download and Install Microsoft HotFix for Dual Core processors: Download here 4. REBOOT 5. Edit registry (skip if it's already done): Start menu, run, regedit and click OK. Go to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, select New followed by Key. Write Throttle as the name of the new key. Right click on Throttle, New and click DWORD value . Write PerfEnablePackageIdle as the value's name. Right click on PerfEnablePackageIdle, and click on Modify. Write 1 in the value's box. Make sure it's set to hexadecimal. Click OK. Close registry editor. 6. Install the AMD Dual Core Optimizer. Download here. 7. REBOOT (Don't be lazy) 8. Make sure that your BOOT.INI (in msconfig) shows a /usepmtimer at the end. It should look like this: 9. Finally, install a critical HotFix from Microsoft. Download here. 10. REBOOT 11. Enjoy!!!
I tried these steps on my old laptop, but in step 8, where it says multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer mine doesnt say "usepmtimer" any ideas?
